“I don’t know, you insufferable bitch! They said it was fae[sup]1[/sup] made. That was all my sister needed to know.”
1 - There exist two major supernatural forces that dwell in the darker places of the world; The fae and the demonic. Fae are typically portrayed as drawing their power from natural elements, whereas the source of demonic strength is said to be humankind itself. Not much is known about either, but both are to be feared.
That still doesn’t tell us why you fear returning to your husband. If he already knows his marriage was a sham and a setup to get his artifact, your husband wouldn’t have hired us to look for you. He’d be mustering an army against your sister since nobles have gone to war for considerably less.
Unless, of course, you actually did find the artifact. In which case, the reason for your quick getaway is understandable.
"My Lords(and fellow travelers), she is leaving us few options. She refuses to tell the truth, well the full truth anyway, about why she does not want to return.
We need, I believe, to decide whether or not to force her to come back or to press further for infomation. If we want to return her, fine. I can bind her with the ropes and gag her with this cloth.
If not, we are nearly at the point of ‘torture time’, here. I can treat her wounds afterward if we learn the full truth."
“Well now that I think about it there’s a lot of different things we could do. We could try to start a war between the two nobles and help out a side for a price or trade her to Ironhall for the bracer or something else of value or trade her to Shedlund. All of those have there pros and cons. So what did you guys have in mind on what to do?”
OOC: Actually, whether he did or not is largely irrelevant from Henry’s standpoint. You weren’t clear, but I figured we weren’t hired anyway.
The ultimate point, though, is that Mildred does not know her husband didn’t hire us, and unless she’s got massive bonus to detecting Henry’s motives, she’ll be hardpressed to realize this since everything else he’s told her so far has been plausible and on top of that is Henry’s honest thoughts towards her. He really does consider her one of the most self-important useless beings on the face of the planet. (He doesn’t even think she’d be that good in the sack. The term “cold fish” keeps running through his head.) So should she actually have an empathy pool (which, in the way you’ve played her is unlikely), she’ll find that he is being pretty much straightforward with her. The only thing he’s told her that he wasn’t really serious about was sicking the peasants on her. But he knew that it was a believable bluff, because the peasants will be killed if she doesn’t work with us since Ironhall will have no reason not to kill them for their treachery. So Henry stands by his statement that he was hired. If I need to make a roll, manipulation + subterfuge would probably be the pool. Though I should get bonuses or she could get penalties, because really that’s the only thing I haven’t been honest with her about and everything up to this point has been for the most part patently true. Henry means business and she really is annoying him with her resistance to tell him everything.
To Henry, out of earshot of Lady Ironhall: “You know, if we bring her back to Lord Ironhall, he might just assume we kidnapped her ourselves - a story which she would be sure to encourage. On the other hand, we killed this lot, so we would not be welcome in Little Shedlund, either. Lady Ironhall will surely not cooperate with any plan we make.”
Yes, I’m aware. I was considering including a disclaimer that there was nothing stopping Henry from lying to her but didn’t think it was needed. I was just making it clear in case there was any confusion.
And, uh, thanks for the DMing tips, but I think I’ve got it under control.
You still haven’t answered my questions. Why do you fear your husband? What are you keeping from us.
Or would you rather answer to the peasants you are condemning to death at Ironhall’s hands by your actions? You will find them not nearly as accommodating as us. You have five seconds to come clean. I tire of you.
*Henry takes one of his daggers and throws it into the ground in front of the interrogated peasant. It sinks to the hilt.
To Cutter*: On my signal release the prisoner. Should he attack any in our party, cut him down.
To Walter: If he runs away, shoot him.
To the Prisoner: As soon as I release you, she’s all yours.
Sorry. Just wanted to clarify where my character’s coming from and what his motivations are and to confirm that most of what he’s saying isn’t bluffing.
“What do you expect me to say? He’s going to want to know why I ran- why I married him in the first place. Do you need me to spell out everything for you, Faramond?”
“I’m not condemning anyone to death. You are. You’re condemning all of us to die. Every last one of us.”
The prisoner, currently lying on his side and clutching at his open, gaping wound, just stares at the dagger for a moment, then at Henry.
To Henry: “It’s time for a plan, cousin. You want to lead this group? Make a decision, but know that she’s determined to be our enemy. Let her live, and we might just get both Ironhall and Little Shedlund out for our blood.”
