SDMB RSS feeds work!

What’s stupid about this? I love the idea.

Surely they have this resolved after ~11 months.

It’s hard to find another website or messageboard that doesn’t have rss feeds, yet someone has had a post-it note on their desk (yeah right) for the last two years, pondering whether or not Alterego’s request for rss feeds is legally kosher. wtf, mate.

They had resolved it and had a post-it note to remind them to put in the change. Post-its can get lossed so I am providing an alternative method of reminding the Reader to implement rss.

Or something like that.

You came here pretty quick, alterege. Please tell me you haven’t been monitoring this thread for nearly a year.

I get e-mails when threads I have contributed to are updated (and I happened to be checking my e-mail).

Sorry folks, this has been put on hold pending an upgrade. Which we still don’t have in place.

When we do, we will, I hope, move forward on this.

bumpity bump bump

This thread has useful information, tired of searching for it

I view RSS feeds in My Yahoo, and I have the feeds working for the forums I want. Is there a feed for the User Control Panel, so I can keep track of my subscribed threads?

There is an entry in the FAQ for RSS:

http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/faq.php?faq=vb_board_usage#faq_vb_rss_syndication

RSS feeds have been turned off until their impact on the performance of the server is more fully understood.

Sorry for enabling and then having to disable this feature. I’m not positive turning them off will resolve the performance issues we’ve been having but they are definitely contributing to them.

Not to beat a dead horse, but how is it coming? I just got a new smartphone, and I am itching to try it out!

I’ve given up on this issue. TPTB aren’t very powerful when it comes to technology, generally speaking.

I think those links are dead.

Just to make it perfectly clear, RSS will never be a part of the SDMB any more than inline images in threads will be.

Yes, I removed those links once we withdrew RSS feeds for the boards. Note that this is a very old thread.

I wish we could enable them, and I’m still pushing for it, but it caused performance issues on the board when we last turned RSS on.

Shall let you know if we have any update on this.
