Free at last, free at last. Thank God almight…Ok, I’m getting carried away.

Tomorrow, 28 August 2008, is the 45th anniversary. You’re not getting carried away.

What an unexpected surprise my own systems(all 3 of them) are also being upgraded this weekend and we’re also finally ditching ‘‘peasant net’’ and having a wireless antenna installed on Tuesday. My systems here haven’t been upgraded since the boards separated from AOL. Needless to say I had thought the boards would upgrade before I did but both at the same time. I’m going to have to sit down this is just too much for one fisherman to bear.
Oh and thanks to Jerry and the team.
Seconded. Lots of big upgrades and boobies…Hell I’m going to have to lay down for a minute. ![]()
Never said they were big. The nicest boobies are smallish.
I’m so glad the upgrade is included! I miss features that the modern version of vbulletin has soooo much, at last I’ll get to use them here.
It seems to me there ought to be a way for the posts made over the weekend to not be lost, and instead be integrated into the separate board version you’re prepping on, though. Somehow.

D) The complete contents of the SDMB will be opened up to all Web search engine spiders.
I asked and argued for this more than any other doper, so thanks for finally implementing it! I see a majestic unicorn in the SDMB’s future..
Yay! I’ve been lurking around, waiting to make sure this change was ever going to happen. There are quite a few posts I want to get involved in, but there was no way I’d feel comfortable asking anyone to sponsor my membership.
Anyways, I thought I’d join now, so I’ll be one of the first new Dopers. And so I can post in this thread before it gets 10 pages long.

Search engines were restricted in the past because we offered the internal search engine as a benefit of subscribing. The internal search engine is about to be turned on for everybody and so with it we’d like the content to be available to all and sundry search engine users as well.

Wait - your public argument as to why you should let Google et al. spider the SDMB is because you are making the search engine public, and not because of the $$$$$$$ you are going to be making?
Don’t kid.
There is a pitcher of Jerry’s favorite Northwest microbrew waiting for him if he ever gets to my town. Many thanks to all at the bigwigs at the SDMB and Chicago Reader.
It’s about time.

:dubious: I think Jerry made it clear that the $$$$$$$ is one of the good reasons, in the sentence just before your selective quote:
I believe it’s important that the content of the message board be easily found if we want to grow membership.

I’m gonna bribe the mods to look the other way with booze and chocolate, then tell you what I really think!
Fine with me, but I have expensive tastes. The 2008 bottling of Jose Cuervo Reserva de la Familia Tequila will work fine, as will any fine raspberry chocolate truffles.

6) A future upgrade to the SDMB internal search function: We’ll eventually be moving to an improved third party solution for the internal SDMB search function. This is to improve performance of the SDMB in general and also to handle the additional searching capability of non-subscribers. Tentative plans for this are sometime in the fall of 2008.

Between now and the time the new search is brought online, will the five-minute intersearch interval be decreased?
This is all a conspiracy to get my wife to stick around, isn’t it? I KNEW you guys would like her better than me. Just because she’s got nice boobies!
No, Skald, cos she’s nice!
Hmm…Labor Day…
Is that when you all have your babies?
Seems like it’s catching on, though now I kinda wish I coulda thought of something better…
Myself, I’d favour Rodents of Unusual Size to power the board.

Before we enter the Twilight Zone, I’d like to check-- Is it going to be cool to bump any threads started in the near pre-disorder days, to ask for re-posts after the morphine wears off?
Also, I call dibs on that Sinclair ZX-81 in the corner, okay? It’s cute.
Any bets on how long after the upgrade before some posters find something about it to bitch about? I’m saying a week.

Great question and worth repeating.

The first day there will be complaints about both the Google Search and from posters who posted over the weekend not realizing their posts will disappear. There will also be a smattering of complaints from posters that just renewed and don’t feel it is fair the SDMB keeps their money.
If people want to complain, I’m pretty sure they can come up with ideas on their own.
I also nicked this miniature giant space hamster from a crazy guy with swords and purple face paint, he’s supposed to be WAY better than the normal hamster, you guys want him?
How were you able to nick Boo without getting some limps chopped off?
“Go for the eyes, Boo! Go for the eyes!”
And how would this effect the way you post normally?

It won’t really, just less evidence is all. No use making the prosecutor’s job too easy. ![]()
