SDMB titles: Charter Member, Member, Mooch, etc

Does this new style for the board come with changes for member titles? Previously, anyone who paid their dues was titled “Charter Member”. How is this working now? Is everyone who paid their dues before the move to pay accounts a “Charter Member”, and those of us who paid afterwards “Members”? Will there be other titles on the board, related to post-count (I’ve seen this on a number of other boards, jsut curious), and I assume non-payers will still be “Guests”. Whats the deal?

I certainly hope they don’t create custom titles based upon postcount. I used to be a moderator on a very large messageboard (about twice the size of the SDMB). The quality of posts changed dramatically after titles were “earned” by making a certain number of posts. The place went downhill fast, and the crappy “postcount +1” people crowded out the people who only posted when they had something worth saying. Most of the ‘Old Guard’ folks left, leaving the board to a pack of rude, yammering, arrogant twits.

There’ll be a special member title just for those who post things in the wrong forum.

Hey, I remember a place like that. I guess it happens everywhere.

I just posted this same question in ATMB: “Suddenly, I’m a ‘Member!’

Odd. Futile Gesture and Dag Otto are showing up as Charter Members, but CynicalGabe and pinkfreud appear to not have any titles at all. What about me? I should be a “SDSAB”.

I see you as “SDSAB.” I’m still a blank, though.

Wow, that was some fast action. Now I see myself as “Member.” I’ve been reMembered!

I was showing up as a Member earlier, but now I am blank. In more ways than one.

:smack:

Now I’m back, apparently, to Member.

My “Member” has been removed.

Auggh. Titles seem to come and go. Is this some sort of malfunctioning of the chronosynclastic infundibulum?

Wow. I can’t believe that I actually know what that means!

TubaDiva provided some answers in the aforementioned ATMB thread.

I too noticed that people with the “Member” title now have no title. The other thread seems to indicate that these titles will come back, and that no new titles will be introduced, which I agree with. Message boards where you earn titles or stars by having a large number of posts always lead to a lot of posts like this:

    LOLLOLOL!!!

Disclaimer: This is the first time I’ve ever used the smilies. This example of a horrible post is for scientific and educational purposes only.

Since I tend to post long replies (as some may have noticed =)), I have a lower post count than I’d have if I made that sort of post. Unfortunately, I’ve already earned my high-school diploma and completed adolescence, so no five gold stars for me.

Almost as bad is when there’s some referral system where you can rate people’s posts as good (and sometimes bad) using points you earn from making posts yourself. The Sims 2 message board has this, and everyone is preoccupied with ‘bene[ficial post] points’. The quality of posts on that board is orders of magnitude poorer than on SDMB, though there are other reasons for that. (The titles also have joke names like ‘Tongue-Tied Tourist’, which isn’t so funny after you see it 7800 times.)

I don’t think there are any titles here besides ‘Guest’, ‘Member’, ‘Charter Member’, ‘SDSAB’, ‘Administrator’, and ‘Banned’. I’ve never seen ‘Mooch’, and I might have missed some.

Oh, there’s one more title: ‘Perfect Master’.

I have to say that this is one of the funniest comments I’ve seen here in six years. Thanks for making me laugh!

You missed “Moderator.” It’s worth noting that ‘Banned’ comes in two alternatives: ‘Banned’ and ‘BANNED’ – the difference evidently lying in how thoroughly they pissed off the Administrators and Moderators before action was taken.

I think this is more appropriately handled in the thread in ATMB, ref’d by Misnomer: Suddenly I’m a Member

Consequently, I’m shutting this one down.
