All good advice. Something that works well for me is to keep sliced lunch meat around all the time.
Because of my re-structured plumbing, I don’t have to worry about fat, but even if that’s a concern for you, lots of kinds of lunch meats are low-fat.
I’ve not been to the gym in a couple weeks and have been eating more than I should of things I shouldn’t even be eating in the first place but have somehow managed to mantain my weight for the past couple weeks and was still 218 when I weighed myself this morning. I’m hoping to get back in the swing of exercising since I really do enjoy it when I do it but getting there is a struggle sometimes, especially on days like today when I’m working over and have plans after work, leaving little or no time the gym.
177.2 @ 40.8 % fat; waist 101 cm
Not great, but I was not ‘good’ with food last week, so I’m happy I lost anything.
I’m doing weights now, so I expect the weight loss to stay slow. But it’s bothering me that I’m stuck @ 41% fat. That’s ironic, because I’m been tracking fat to cheer me up when the weight loss slows.
Alpine, the only advice I have for exercise is to try to workout on the other three days.
pbbth, while watching t.v.? I’ve been doing floor exercises [until this week] every night for 1/2 hour to an hour, depending on how much t.v. I can stand. It’s not a major work-out, but it’s showing up on my waist.
Thanks tdn, norinew and j666.
Working out 7 days a week… I guess if I really want to lose the weight, I better suck that up, but it’s an imposing regimen.
Does anyone use any of those online fitness/diet journals?
I used www.fitday.com for a while. It was a pretty good way to get a better handle on exactly what I was eating over the course of a day - especially if you have access to the internet for most of the day, you can update it constantly and really get a feel for what you are eating and when. I was pretty surprised how many calories I really ate, and in my experience most other people are too.
The site has a place to log your exercise and track your weight too, but it doesn’t really offer much by way of advice. Also, you have to be really, really honest with yourself about how much you’re really eating.
That’s the info I want to find out - how much I’m really eating in terms of calories. I have a good idea what I’m eating, just not how it adds up.
I’m off to snowshoe for a few hours in deeeeep snow! That ought to take care of the oatmeal breakfast.
I work out before work; I get everything ready the night before, and in the morning grab my bag and breakfast and get to the gym. I don’t wake up until I’m done on the rower. I eat my breakfast while stuck in traffic.
Week-ends, when I get to sleep until 7:30, and take all the time I want on the machines, are like a week’s vacation.
I don’t pay attentions to calories; I don’t have the patience. I don’t eat grains or potatoes, and I eat at least a cup of fruits or vegetables with every meal. Celery is great; it takes for ever to eat a raw cup. I do try to avoid things like bananas and avocados, and eat peas or corn no more than every other day.
And I eat low-cal/low-carb microwave ‘dinners’ for lunch [dinner? that’s a snack]. I’m not a big fan of convenience foods, but they work for me AND they have really taught me to eat slowly.
I got on the scale this morning and I’ve finally got below 200 pounds! I wieghed in at 199(90.26 kilograms).
Sure, it’s just another marker, but to me it’s significant! And I can fit into my old jeans again.
It also happens to be my halfway goal marker, with the ultimate goal being 175 pounds.
Yay, Baker!
Hooray, Baker! I remember how happy I was to get under 200 pounds. Go ahead and revel in it!
Yesterday, I got in the mood to organize a couple of my closets. In one, I found a bag of clothes my sister had given me over a year ago. One of their tenants had skipped town, owing them mucho money. When they went to clean out the place, they found tons of brand new clothing that they suspect she shoplifted. A lot of it still had tags on them. Most were in the size 14 range. Anyway, I wound up inheriting some of the clothes, though at the time I barely dared dream I would ever fit into them. I stashed them in the closet and promptly forgot about them.
So yesterday, I found them again. The first thing I pulled out of the bag was a lacy black dress. Wow, I, a non-dress-wearer, thought, could this really fit me? I tried it on and not only did it fit but was maybe a size too big. Wow! And it didn’t look half bad on me too. Double wow. Now if I could afford to find nice shoes that would fit my half-breed Sasquatch feet (got the width but not the length. Not quite as hairy either. ) I’d be ready for a night on the town. There were several skirts and other things in the bag too and they all fit! At the risk of repeating myself, Wow!
The temperature outside was almost 50 degrees. Yay! I finally got in a good long walk, which felt really, really good. Most other walks this winter were cut short because I just can’t take the cold weather any more without all my natural insulation. Yesterday I saw a witch hazel bush in full bloom and flocks of robins chattering away. It would sure be nice if it stayed this warm for the rest of the winter.

Well, I’m back. I posted in one of the previous monthly posts but I don’t remember which. I’ve been making lifestyle changes since school started in September. Mostly eating better and exercising more. I have a housemate as a workout buddy so that makes going to the gym a lot easier. I’ve yo-yoed and done too many drastic diets in the past for too long, my goal is to get down to my goal weight and set up some permanent, good habits along the way. I think it’s been good so far, I survived the holidays at least!
It seems to be hardest to stay motivated to go to my school’s gym in the winter, especially since 20% of the cardio machines are broken, it’s constantly crowded, and walking there in -10 degree weather isn’t much fun. But we went today, and we’re keeping up our habit of going 4 times a week along with 1 pilates day a week. Along with exercising we’ve been eating in moderation and heathily so I plan to reach my goal weight before summer. I probably won’t post much here as I’m not sure of what I can offer, but I just wanted to say that I’ve been reading this post every month and it’s been great seeing everybody lose. I wish everybody luck and success!

Hmph - only lost a pound this week which is strange as I played a lot of squash and kept within my WW points allowance. I’m unlikely to lose more this week either as I’m on holiday so won’t be out and about as much so less walking (although I guess I could fit in more gym time as a result, worth trying). Anyway, I’ve now lost a full stone so that’s one down, two to go.
I am slowly adding more to the elliptical every day. I am now back up to 2/3 of where I was when I stopped. Soon I will be doing a full work out.
Down 2.2 this morning, for a total of 10.8 since September. My goal for this semester was to get going on the exercise, and it hasn’t happened yet, so that’s my plan for this week.
I tried myfitnesspal.com. Sadly, their food database is really pitifully empty, and there’s no way to correct or remove bad entries (even ones you’ve done, and made a mistake on). I still use it to track weight though since it has a handy graph.
Finally I’m losing weight again. The first 10 days of February weren’t great… stupid female stuff. I’m keeping with the working out and weights, and finally bought a shirt today in a smaller size (22/24 instead of my usual 26/28).
For the past couple of days I have been having a really hard time of the weight loss. I gained a pound last week and yesterday I went WAY over my daily point limit.
I have bonus points, of course, so I am within my weekly allotment, but I feel like the only reason weight watchers offers bonus points is to keep people from feeling like they failed and ending their diet when they inevitably go over their daily point allotment. I don’t think they are actually meant to be used regularly but more of an emotional cushion for when you fall.
Help inspire me to climb back up on the diet bandwagon, dopers! For those of you who have lost a significant amount: What is the biggest positive change you have noticed in your daily life since you’ve lost weight?
I have a great ass these days.
Why would you think that? I try not to use them all every week, but they are part of the program and I use them regularly.
It just seems weird to me the way that it is set up. I get 30 points per day, but I get an extra 35 points per week just for the hell of it? I’m sure it is set up the way it is for a very good, scientific reason, but it just seems like it is designed to bolster you when you have a crying jag and feel the need to eat a hershey bar or three and help you feel less like you failed than a legitimate weight loss tool. I might just be skeptical of something that tells me it is okay to eat more though…for years all I heard was, “eat less and work out more to lose weight.” If it seems to good to be true it probably is, you know?
