Claims the hundredth post with a flourish

I had lost 3.5lb at my weigh in on Monday, odd considering I was on holiday last week and did virtually no exercise (not even walking to work). However I was consistently under my points allowance so maybe that’s what did it, that and I didn’t lose any the week before so possibly my body was catching up.

So yeah, the cruise gave me a heart attack. NOT REALLY, but I felt like that on the morning after we returned and I stepped on the scale to see that I had gained 8 pounds. The following morning bore out that six pounds was due to dehydration. I still gained, but shit happens, right? I didn’t overeat more than one day, but I did drink and I don’t normally do that.

Good work everyone!

I am back up to 75% on my cardio. In another week I’ll be doing 100% of what I was before I stopped. I think I will keep increasing it some.

Two measly pounds doesn’t seem like an unfair trade for a cruise!

If only it was only two British pounds. That ‘cashless society’ they have going on there really sneaks up.

Well, if you could trade money for weight-loss, Oprah wouldn’t have nearly the struggle she does! One thing’s for sure-money can’t buy “thin”!

You still look great, and when hubby and I take a cruise next fall, I’ll probably plan on gaining a little weight!

So I decided to go to a WW meeting tomorrow. The thing that’s really been lacking for me is motivation, with a huge side order of lack-of-accountability. Y’all are great, but it’s just too easy for me to not click on the thread when I don’t wanna. Yes, of course I can also not go to meetings when I don’t wanna, but I just found out my Chemistry lab partner’s wife is the receptionist at meetings near me, training to be a leader - so I’m going to her meetings, instead of the slightly closer ones (it’s an extra 3 minutes’ drive, nothing big). That way, when I go to chemistry class, I’ll feel guilty if David’s wife hasn’t seen me at the meeting!

Hey, we’re going on a cruise, too! My husband and I have decided that we’re both going to look like models by then. Hope you had fun on yours, Ginger, and I hope you enjoy yours this fall, norine.

I’m really proud of myself for how hard I’ve been working out this month. We joined the fitness center on Feb. 1 and I’ve only missed four days, two because I was sick, one because of my mother-in-law’s birthday party, and one because I spent the day with my mom and sister. Haven’t missed a day yet this week and don’t plan on it! I’ve really bumped up my workouts from what I was doing at home, rotating between the elliptical, stationary bike, and weight training. I’m feeling great and smaller but have only lost one pound so far. I’m going to take some measurements this weekend so see how I’ve progressed.

Me exercising seems to have completely stopped - I really can’t be bothered to go slog it out on the treadmill/bike after work. I’m going to see how much (if any) I lose over the course of this week before deciding whether to keep at it as I managed to lose 3lb last week and I didn’t do any. If I can lose weight and not exercise (beyond walking a lot of course which I don’t count because it’s just part of my daily routine) then I will.

In an effort to get more excersize I have invented something I call the Nerd Workout. I would be much, much happier going to the library, wandering a museum, or enjoying a foreign film than I would be working out. The treadmill is not nearly stimulating enough for me to be on for half an hour or more. Last weekend I participated in a scavenger hunt at the American Museum of Natural History and I was exhausted at the end of it. I walked several miles throughout the museum including more than a few sets of stairs. Then it hit me that this is an excellent way to get some much needed excersize and be entertained as well!

Yesterday I went to the website for the Metropolitan Museum of Art and brought up their floor plan, wrote down the order in which each gallery is laid out, and brought up their search function to find pieces in each gallery that I have not seen before or do not recognize from my last visit. Then I created a worksheet that forces me to track down several pieces in each section of the museum and answer questions about them. I figure this will force me to walk several miles within the museum to answer all my questions (not including the walking involved in getting there and back) and it will count as my entertainment for the day! I have started to do similar things for other places in the city like Grand Central, Central Park, and the NY Public Library. I have to come up with a different game plan for during the week but it does give me a reason to be excited about walking on the weekends!

That’s brilliant.

Can you come up with a way to exercise while reading a paperback novel, drinking cut rate Chardonnay?

(I can’t read on the treadmill.)

I weighed in at 191 today. That’s 1.8 pounds down from last week.

j666, you might be able to read on an exercise bicycle.

Paraphrased, clearly.

THAT SOUNDS AWESOME.

When Dave and I were in Cozumel, we did an “Amazing Race” sort of thing. We walked all over the town, doing neat little things like on the Amazing Race. I still have a henna tattoo of Quetzlcoatl on my ankle from it. Most importantly, we walked for hours, and had fun while we did it.

I can’t think of a way to combine the workout with the reading/chardonnay, but I can think of a way to connect them. Buy a novel/bottle of wine/prize of your choice. Give it to your spouse/friend/brother/someone to hide. They need to hide it very well, like in their desk at work or in a friend’s storage shed or something. Then they can either give you a list of clues to follow that, when read correctly, takes you to the place where the prize is located, or if scavenger hunt type things don’t entertain you they can take the prize, hide it, and give you a pedometer and only hand over your prize once you hand over a pedometer reading 15000 steps or something.

I worked from home today because of the weather. I eat so much better when I work from home. I may have to look for a job where I work from home…

I’ve been quite pleased. For the first time in ages, I’ve not only hit my target weight, but I was able to maintain it all week! Now, for the weekend (the next hurdle…)

173.0 @ 41.0 % fat; 98 cm waist

So, I have a milestone; as of Friday, I lost 10% of my bodyweight (and I was still down 10% this morning, which is always my Fat Day). And I’ve lost 10 cm at both my waist and belly.
woo-hoo.

Illuminatiprimus, there are more benefits to exercise than the calories burned; it keeps your metabolic rate higher, tones and build muscles, and is very good for your mental health. Hang in there.

Everyone seems to have hit a stall in the last two weeks; I wonder if it is the time of the diet, or the time of year? Is anyone here from the southern hemisphere?
ppbth is trying changing things (new workout) around to keep motivated; I’m just keeping at it, slogging through the boredom.
Ginger’s solution, the cruise, was probably the best (two pounds is nothing).

I have a new iPod, so the treadmill is slightly less tedious. I prefer the treadmill to any other cardio machine, because it pushes me harder than I will push myself. And I just don’t feel any benefit unless I concentrate on the workout, so reading is out.

I’d like to discuss the Holy Grail of Weight Loss: Spot Reduction.
‘They’ tell us that spot reduction is impossible, because adipose catabolism is systemic, not localized. However, ‘they’ have also given us the Body Mass Index and told us that cutting calories from fat is the way to lose weight, so I don’t trust ‘them’.

I seem to be benefiting from spot exercising, even at areas that would not show the result of better posture (the reason my waist and belly have gone down). Loufahs and lotions have had no effect on measurement. Weight training also has had no effect on measurements.

Anyone else have any tips or reflections to share?

3Acres, my condolences. I hope you can find comfort in that 93 years is a hell of a run, and it sounds like your cousin made the best of hers.

(And as a depressive, I must tell you that exercise really is a good way to battle depression)

My opinion on spot reduction is that I can lose weight overall and it takes some of the “fluff” off my problem parts. I can tone up by doing situps so the muscles are lean. But I will always have this goddamn pooch on my belly.

Or maybe I wouldn’t if I hired a fucking drill instructor to kick my ass several times a week, but I’m not sure I want to expend the time, energy and money just to have a flat stomach!

A flat stomach in anyone over 30 is a sign of profound narcissism.

Spend the money on a good tailor.

I am thisclose to just saying fuck it. I have been struggling for so long and am not losing anything. Doesn’t matter if I eat on my points, or eat all of my flex or half of my flex, I’m just not losing.

I think it may be time to start Wendie again.
