SDMB's Padeye Has Passed Away

This is not mundane and certainly not pointless. I just had no idea how to get this information to Arizona (especially Phoenix-area) Dopers, other than to simply post it here. Many of you know Padeye, my husband Steve. I am very broken-hearted right now… my honey died today, succumbing to acute liver failure. He was not an alcohol abuser, never used drugs or needles, did not live a dangerous lifestyle and had no liver disease in his family. Yet four weeks ago today he told me he did not feel very well and wanted to rest over the Christmas weekend. He was put into the hospital on 1/10 by a specialist, and he looked like he was making progress for a few days. But Saturday he started a rapid descent which ended today. My big teddy bear is gone.

Any Phoenix-area or other Arizona dopers who would like to attend Steve’s memorial service, it is being held Saturday afternoon 1/21 at 4:00 PM. Our family and friends want to celebrate Steve’s life that day, share some tears over losing him and some smiles over all of us having loved him.

Good Lord, Cindy. I’m sorry to hear that. I’d seen him at Southern California Doper meetings and never had an idea about that. My sympathy is with you.

I moved back to Connecticut before meeting up with Steve in Phoenix. I am simply without words. The last correspondence was via email for lunch on central ave in downtown Phx.

I’ve just seen this today, and I wanted to add my condolences. Although I never had the privilege to meet him, I always enjoyed Padeye’s posts, and I’ll miss him here. I’m so sorry for your loss, and I’ll be thinking of you and your family during this awful time.

My sincere sympathies, TheLadyLion. Padeye is one of the first dopers I remember when I first started coming here about three years ago. I’ve always enjoyed what he had to say.

TheLadyLion, I’m so sorry. Like some others who already posted, I was among those who shook Padeye’s hand at the 2001 Dopetoberfest in LA. Though I never interacted much with him on the boards, his posts always struck me as very insightful, and often downright hysterically funny. Seemed like a damn nice guy IRL, too.

It’s always the good ones that go first, or so it seems. You will be in my thoughts - take care.
