SDMB×10 party in Chicago? [Spring - '09]

The SDMB, in its current incarnation, is nine years old this month.

Who else thinks there needs to be one bigass shindig somewhere in Chicago next March?

I know there was some interest in one of the recent 99er threads. Who’d be interested in such a thing?

Fascinating, I love Chicago, I would consider it. However the only drawback is that Chicago in March is not so wonderful, so often.

Are you sure you don’t want to delay it until at least late April?

Jim

This month is almost over. It’d be more realistic to try one for April.

Troy McClure SF was talking about next year for the 10th year anniversary.

:smack:

I agree - Chicago in March sucks ass.

Well, put me on the list as a ‘possible maybe’. For the 10 anniversary, I could try to make the trek to Chitown. I didn’t register until 2000, but I lurked in '99.

I am expressing interest. I’ve never been to Chicago, and if finances allow, I’d love to be involved. (Is it OK that I’ve only been a Doper for a coupla years?)

I’m up for it, but that’s because I’ll be in Chicago already next March. However, March blows in a lot of ways, so maybe we should consider some not shitty month.

I could potentially make it to such a gathering and am expressing tentative interest. However, I will also throw in my lot with those who have suggested a less craptastic month than March.

I could probably make the trek, especially if it were *not *in March.

I could very tentatively make it down for a couple of days…

I love Chicago. I’d be in.

Never crossed the Atlantic, can think of plenty worse reasons to do so.

I was in Chicago a couple years ago for St. Patrick’s Day, and I thought it was fine. Just bring a jacket.

Okay, fine. How is it there in April?

Oh, and of course any and all Friends of Cecil would be welcome. It’s not only for 99ers or anything like that.

I recall Late April as lovely, especially if you walk on the sunny side of the street.

However, I have only been to Chicago a 8 or 9 times* and even April nights can get cold. I recall a Cubs game where the Hot Chocolate easily outsold the beer. It was somewhere below freezing.

Jim

  • Most of these trips from Great Lakes when I was in Naval Training in 1985. But at least 3 times since. Once in April (the Cubs game was part of this.)

I’m always up for a party!

One more to the choir, though… May. Not March. May.

This city blows wild goat arse in March. In May, it’s near-idyllic.

I’m in. I think most of the other big Chicago fests have been in May. So, I also vote for May.

I’ve never been to Chicago, nor to a Dopefest. This sounds like the mother of all Dopefests. I’d be interested, subject to work & family committments.
