Ah yes, Sean Avery. The same guy who speaks out for homosexual marriage, yet feels free to sling racial slurs at other players. (He denies it, of course, but considering his reputation, I’d believe Laraque over Avery any day.)
He didn’t tweet “no homo” (to the best of my knowledge); that was a different hockey player. I’m not sure why it was mentioned in this article other than “here are shitty things some hockey players have done.” Avery has been a vocal and strong advocate for gay rights in a sport where that stand isn’t popular, so he deserves some points for that.
But he loses them all and more with his misogyny, probable racism, and general shitty behavior like in the OP. Total asshole.
Actually, hockey’s probably the most gay-friendly. Ever heard of the You Can Play Project? I have no doubt that there are a lot of homophobes in the league, but during the 2014 Olympics, when there was the big controversy over Russia’s treatment of gays, a number of players spoke out against it. (Sidney Crosby and Henrik Zetterberg, for example).
