Search engines for kids

Can anyone suggest some good search engines for children.

Each week as part of her homework my daughter is given a couple of general knowledge questions to research and has to find out some basic information on a specific country.

While our out of date copies of Encarta and the World Almanac usually provide the answers, I’d like to encourage her to start using search engines - and Google and the like simply provide far too much information.

To give you an idea of the level of information required, the questions are generally along the lines of “Who was Adolf Hitler?” or “Who was Beethoven?” and a one sentence answer is expected.

In respect of the countries, the children are basically expected to find out the general location, the capital city, the flag, and any outstanding features (mountains, volcanoes, etc) for which the country might be notable.

All suggestions are welcome - I’m hoping to create her own bookmark file for her.

Many thanks.

Why don’t you check out the CIA World Factbook. A lot of information nicely set out.

Yeah, what Squink said. Ask Jeeves is a good all-purpose answer machine for those kinds of easy questions.

They also have Ask Jeeves For Kids, too.

Information Please is good.

Also http://www.encyclopedia.com/ is good, but it tends to probably have too much information.
