I’m looking for good books on New England rural living. I don’t have the exact specs as to what I am looking for. But I think I’ll describe the book I want as a metaphor, if the book was a chowder it would contain these ingredients: [ul]
[li]Walden by Thoreau[/li][li]Noah’s Garden by Sara Stein[/li][li]Cod By Mark Kurlansky[/li][li]The Big Oyster: History on the Half Shell[/li][li]Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver[/li][li]In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan[/li][li]A River Runs Through It by Norman Maclean (though this is a movie)[/li][li]And a dash of the movies from the rocky mountain film festival…[/li][/ul]
Now let me tell you it is some interesting chowder. Its a thick potato chowder. And yes, for all those of you in the SDMB who love it, there is most definitely bacon in it, and even a pinch of bacon salt. You may not enjoy this chowder but it tastes delicious to me…
Any help in finding this would be greatly appreciated! Or any other recommendations you may have (including actual chowder recipes, preferably including potatoes and bacon)
