Some time back, I saw a thread that showed how to search for usernames and get a whole list of usernames that were close to the one you searched. For example if you searched “Blue Peter” you would get all usernames that included the words “blue” or “peter” in them as well as names such as Bluesman or hotpeterson. Now, I can’t remember how to do that again. Can somebody help me? Thanks!
Back when our search option was better enabled you could punch in “hot” and all the “hot”-related names would come up as a searchable option. That doesn’t exist anymore.
Here’s a fun little hijack of the search function…
Do you remember the forum the thread started by “hot…” was in? You can set the setting to “thread starter”, then “beginning”, and “ascending” and just look at all the threads started by the person you remember.
Here is the “blue” people section of GQ.
Other than that, sorry.
Go to “advanced search” http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/search.php?
Type in a partial username in the box on the right.
Uncheck the “exact name” checkbox.
Set your other search parameters, and go.
Here’s the result of looking for names with ‘mist’ in them over the past 6 mo:
Thank you, Squink, that was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for your effort, too,** bb2k**.
