Searching inoperational?

As of yesterday afternoon and this morning, searches send me to a completely blank screen (or the more typical timeout message…you know the one–whichever comes first, I guess).

I haven’t seen anyone mention it here, so now I’m asking.

It couldn’t be just me. I’ve tried with two different computers on two different networks.

I also can’t imagine it’s a universal problem, or someone would have brought it up.

Not being able to search hurts. A deep-down longing I can’t describe. Is this what purgatory feels like?

I just tried one and it worked.

Searches are the function that consume the lion’s share of our server resources. When things get busy, searches will often time out. I suggest running your searches, if possible, during “off hours,” off hours being late night, or early morning Central Time.

Hmmm. I tried a couple times this morning between 7:30 and 8:00 am central. No dice.

I understand the timeout business, but what about being brought to a blank screen? Is that another sign of a busy server?

Lastly, does increasing the number of words in the search increase or decrease the workload of the search engine? I was searching with 4 words.

I’m afraid I can’t answer those questions with any specificity, glilly. Me, whenever I have trouble of any kind here, I chalk it up to traffic and try later. Weird things happen when the server gets loaded down. Double posts, truncated posts, delayed posts, any number of error messages timeouts. Ain’t much to be done for it.
