I have heard rumors that Chappelle is suffering from writer’s block. But the fact that production was underway, implies they had at least a couple episodes in the can. Maybe the humor was too controversial? This sucks however you want to cut it.
I’m disappointed I have to wait longer (especially since Comedy Central is also going to hold back on the DVD for season 2 which could’ve helped to tide me over), but I’m not surprised. Chappelle writes virtually everything with his friend. He has to live up to the phenomenal success the show has had (the first seaon DVD is the best selling TV show DVD of all time). I wonder if getting more writers would be acceptable for him. If he Chappelle-ized someone elses writing, it would probably still be great.
According to a guest on the morning show I produce, tonight one of the tabloid TV shows is going to annouce that Chappelle is in a mental institution somewhere in South Africa. This is evidently drug related. We’ll see tonight if my “inside” info is reported, let alone whether its true.
“Drugs.”
“Drugs.”
“I’m going to have to say ‘drugs’ as well.”
The New York Post reported a few days ago that sources said he was ‘undergoing treatment for personal issues.’ That, combined with the fact that excessive ‘partying’ is cited in every story about this, makes me pretty confident that Dave has a drug problem.
The real question (if we don’t mind wallowing in poor taste): what is Dave’s drug of choice? I’m gonna say cocaine – he’s a skinny, high-energy guy. Seems to fit.
Trouble with the network over censorship - although I had difficulty with that, given what he’s already gotten away with - are also suggested in some of the articles. This really sucks, and whatever the problem is I hope they fix it quick.
