Second Coming?

RTFirefly:

I got that off of the soundtrack to the Blues Brothers.

I don’t know whether you’re interested in my take on some of this or not, since I can see why I might be perceived as a renegade Christian, so if you tell me to butt out, I promise not to take it personally. I just don’t want to crash anything.

My own understanding of Jesus “second coming” is derived from this:

He is, of course, the Spirit of truth.

“It is lucky for rulers that men do not think.” — Adolf Hitler

ahem… you gunna cite your source Lib??

Coolness, Lib. Would you care to run out, in your own words, what you understand this to mean (and the degree of credence you place on that interpretation)? If I’m reading you right, you’re saying that what everybody else is taking as the Return of Jesus (sc. Parousia) is actually the Coming of the Spirit (sc. Pentecost), and that’s what Jesus’s promises actually referred to. Is that right?

Poly:

Yep, I’d say that sums it up.

Nav:

Sorry. The source is John 14.

I knew it!

just didn’t want you to be guilty of plagerism

I know I shouldn’t be posting here, as I’m one of those lost Catholics (gracious!) who doesn’t know the Truth.

Still, I wonder how many non Second Comings will it take before people start saying “we don’t know.”

These just-around-the-corner Returns are getting tiresome.

Sorry for the minor disruption.

We now return you to our regular discussion, which will demonstrate … what?

Stop telling God what to do.

Well, Jesus has had about 2000 years to rest since his first coming, so he should be more than horny enough for the second by now.

Before yesterday, I thought the only Rapture debate that any Protestant, or even Catholic person could engage in was wether it’s post, or pre tribulation. Sadly, that notion was blown to bits by Tom. (No worries Tom, I was the naive one)

Here are my beliefs: Jesus will come down from heaven at the sound of a great trumpet, when we least expect it. It may be tomorrow, or in the year 3214. Who knows. We’re not supposed to know. The dead believers will be raised, along with the living believers, and we’ll all join with Jesus in “the clouds.”

I am Pre Trib, so after the Rapture, the Anti-christ will come to reign. Thus will begin the Great Triblulation. Plagues will abound, such as the world has never seen, nor can ever imagine. Even though the full wrath of God is unleashed, many will curse His name, and remain unrepentant.

I believe that people will be saved during the Trib. Also, there are those that will be persecuted mightily for believing in God.

One thing I want to mention in the anti-christ. I’ve heard that “Marilyn Manson is the Anti-christ,” or “This guy is the Anti-christ.” I personaly believe that this man will be more like Billy Graham. He’ll be loved, and likeable. He’ll be powerful, and well respected. And most importantly, he’ll be the guy you least expect to be the Anti-christ.

Oh, you’re gonna burn, tracer.

And some of these guys from LB will willingly stoke the flames.

It’s too late for me, but you still have a chance.

Save yourself while you can.

Stop telling God what to do.

Tracer… :frowning: Usually I can brush off rude, silly comments about God. But that one went way too far.

whats going on here? all the strings keep getting shut down?

There can’t be a “second coming”, after all the messiah has to show up once before there can be a second time.

Some believe that Revolution was written after the fall of the Second Temple. And not Jesus centered.

With Revolution removed from the game board how would you concepts of the second coming shape up?

Oh, I’m gonna keep using these #%@&* codes 'til I get 'em right.

Would that be Revolution (the single version) or Revolution #9 (The White Album version)? Personally I always did go for the album version, but different that’s just me.

“I hear the mermaids singing, each to each. I do not think that they will sing to me.”
-T.S. Eliot

ARG220, if you thought that one went too far, you haven’t read The Onion…

No, Longhorn, you’ve got it confused.

There’s “Revolution”, the single; there’s “Revolution #1”, the White Album version (kinda slow and mellow) of “Revolution”, and then there’s “Revolution #9”, the one that starts off “Number nine, number nine, number nine…” and then gets wierd.

Actually, it already is wierd on the original vinyl; spin it backwards and each “number nine” becomes “turn me on, dead man”. (Remember the “Paul is dead” hoax?) An instance of that satanic ‘backward masking’ that was being used to corrupt our kids, and put them in the thrall of the Antichrist.

There. I got back to the thread - it wasn’t easy!

Tracer: No, I haven’t read the Onion, and I’ve never even heard of it. Don’t bother enlightening me either.

Damn, I knew I was gonna screw it up. And to think, all I had to do was go upstairs and get my copy of it. I always DID like the slow and mellow version, though.

Don’t feed the troll, ARG.

There’s always another beer.
