Secretary School Sign

Hey everyone, this has been driving me bonkers. There was a building, somewhere between the Loop and Roosevelt Rd, around Wabash or State, that had this amazingly sexist advertisement from the 60’s for a secretary school painted on it. I’ve been looking for it a few times, and I cannot find it. Does anyone else remember this, and is the sign still around or did the building get destroyed?

Thanks!

I’m pretty sure you’re remembering a sign on the alley side (next to the L) of the Wirt Dexter Building, 630 South Wabash, destroyed by fire in Oct. 2006. I remember a sign for a secretarial school, but don’t remember anything sexist about it.

Is this it, on the ground floor to the left? I wouldn’t know; I’m just Googling around from half a continent away. Here’s a shot of what may have been the sign in the alley.

Thanks for the responses, Mr Downtown and Cornflakes. Cornflakes, I’m pretty sure that’s it. Maybe the sign isn’t “sexist” per se, but I couldn’t imagine something like that flying today. I always thought it was amusing, though, and I’m sad to hear it’s definitely gone.

What’s she doing with her skirt?

Google “ghost signs Chicago” and you’ll get lots of nifty photos of signs that still exist, but for businesses that are long gone. There seems to be an entire sub-culture dedicating to collecting these Ghost Signs!
