What type of security is there with respect to chartered jets, etc? As I lay awake at night worrying, that was a worry that surfaced. Say we beef up security on commercial jets, and it works. What’s to stop someone from chartering a jet and using it in the same way as the hijacked planes?
I know two people who have Gulfstreams/Lears. From what I’ve heard in the past, nothing stops people from using them as they want. You must file a flight plan and possess the necessary certification. That’s it.
This scenario would seem to be far more unmanageable. There are thousands of charter jets in the U.S.–no security, etc.
There are no security regulations for private & corporate jets. I doubt there are any for cargo planes. Charter jets, probably not. These people stay separate from people in the secure area of airports.
Some charter jets do leave from and arrive in the secure area of an airport. These people would go through the normal security measures.
After Tuesday, charter companies will be unlikely to rent a large jet to 4 guys with guns. Terrorists will need at least a planeful of suicidal people to go charter.
