As of his response, there was only one Prokofiev piece linked (Romeo and Juliet). I assume that that’s what he was referring to.

Prokofiev was as Russian as they get. He’s probably most famous for Peter and the Wolf, although he wrote plenty of terrific stuff.
Yes, Prokofiev is one of the two great 20th-century Soviet Russian composers (Shostakovich is the other). He wrote a lot of great stuff (ballet music, film music, symphonies, concertos, sonatas, etc.) that manages to sound both tuneful and accessible, and edgy and modern.
ISTR one or more 50s history/war/news shows did use the march from Prokofiev’s “Love for Three Oranges”. I think the march really was his second most popular music after “Peter and the Wolf”. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0AkO2OTfjA#t=6m0s
The 50s SF series “Tales of Tomorrow” did use the very beginning of Romeo and Juliet as its theme. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmqVWsIz6pc&feature=related One of a few episodes here: http://www.archive.org/details/TalesOfTomorrow-PastTensekarloff
So which Prokofiev piece was it?
