Seeking Tai Chi advice

Good evening. I’ve been taking Tai Chi for about a year, and I need another perspective on a basic concept; my instructor and I just aren’t connecting.

The problem is that there are two instructions, to sink as part of each movement, and to keep my head level. I interpert “sinking” as bending my knees while keeping my torso erect, preperatory to bringing my dan-tien forward and up. Naturally, this lowers my head. Can someone give me another way to think about this?

Think weight transfer, not positional transfer. (Yes, your posture will have to change for the weight transfer to take place, but if you emphasize the external motion you get the “bobbing head” that your instructor is telling you to avoid.)

Thank you Spiritius Mundi, I’ll need to ponder it before I really understand, but that’s what the rest of my life’s for.

I’m impressed; I didn’t figure there was more than a 25% chance of getting an answer.
