Seen Tull Lately? (Concert Spoilers?)

Going to see Jethro Tull tomorrow night in Pittsburgh. I was wondering if anybody has seen them on this current tour and could give me an idea of the play list. I’m just curious to know what kind of material they’re playing. I would assume that they’re doing a piece or 2 from Ian’s upcoming solo album. Is it Dot-Com heavy? Any surprising old pieces?

Let me just say that it’s been 3 years since I’ve seen Tull live and I’m enthusiastic to do away with my current withrawal symptoms.

You can find a massive compilation of Tull set lists at The Ministry of Information. Their most recent listing is for the August 13 show in Philly:

Aqua-intro, Living In The Past, Nothing Is Easy, Some Day The Sun Won’t Shine, With You There To Help Me, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Beside Myself, Fat Man, Hunting Girl, Count The Chickens, Dot Com, Eurology, Songs From The Wood/Too Old To Rock’N’Roll…/Heavy Horses, Flying Dutchman (intro)/My God, Budapest, Mayhem Jig, Aqualung, Wind Up (short version), Locomotive Breath/Protect And Survive/Cheerio

I haven’t seen Tull since '96, but I’ve heard some live shows. All I can tell you is, don’t expect a high-energy show, with lots of running around and dancing like Ian used to do in the 70’s and 80’s. (They’re a bit “too old to rock and roll”, after all…lol.) And Ian’s voice ain’t what it used to be, either. But, he can still play that flute like a madman.

Be sure to check in with a follow up report, eh?

Howyadoin,

Saw Tull last summer, and was very pleasantly surprised. I was expecting a dinosaur band, but their energy and musicianship was first-rate. I don’t have earlier Tull shows to compare it to, but they kicked ass IMHO. I wish the Ringo Starr show I went to this summer was as good…
