I just did a segway tour of the waterfront in my sleepy little burg. Damn those things are fun to ride but standing still for an hour and a bit plays hell on your feet!
the Mrs. and I did Segway tours of Old San Juan, Hollywood FL, and Tucson. Loved 'em!
Those machines are fun. I’m tempted to get one with the heavy duty offroad tires for running around on our woods and lakeshore.
I had the chance to do an off road segway tour when I was in Ontario last month. Now I regret having passed it up.
I did a DC tour with one of those and it was great until I stated getting brave and started progressively doing tighter and tighter figure 8’s. If you have been on one you can pretty much guess how that ended.
For me it’s not the feet that suffer. It’s the knees.
I also rode a segway with the controls fitted into pads that go between the thighs. Completely hands-free riding. Just swivel the hips to get the motion you want! Extra-ordinary.
SWMBO and I love Segway Tours of Houston. It’s a blast!
A few years ago I bought a Groupon for a half-price Segway tour of Cleveland. None of my friends were interested in going, so I ended up having a private tour, just me and the tour operator. With my bad knees, I figured this might be my last chance to do something like this, and it was so much fun! Even with the knee pain, I was able to do everything I needed to, and made it through the whole hour without problems. Did I mention it was fun? So much fun! In addition to learning a lot about Cleveland and seeing some sights I hadn’t seen before, it was so much fun! I didn’t stop smiling for at least two hours…I went to work right after (the tour was based in my building downtown) and my boss kept teasing me that I was grinning like an idiot! I can’t wait to do tours in other places after I recover from my knee replacements!
I’ve got a theory that it’s a little more easy to get out of control for tall people, because the long arms make it throw farther, and the low angle makes it harder to control.
Any comments?
I’m 6 feet tall exactly, and for me, mine are very stable side to side, however for taller people, it may be a bit more unstable side to side.
I’m 6’ 0" and it was easy to control - very intuitive. I did a Segway tour of Angel Island in the San Francisco Bay and it was great.
