It’s a commercial about nothing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tM_72QXCtN4
For bonus points, anyone recognize the photo on Gate’s shoe store card?

That was weird. But cute!
That’d be Bill’s mug shot from when he was arrested for…phreaking? I forget what it was…
Mug Shots | The Smoking Gun “Traffic violation.” Whatever that was.
I thought the commercial was good, but maybe they were trying a little too hard.
I saw it during the game last night and it caught the attention of all of us.
It was pretty funny and very surreal.
However, what specifically were they selling?
They’re just working up interest now; more, and more focused, commercials will follow
Speeding and driving without a license.
That was a really stupid commercial. Although the bit about Jerry wanting to eat computers was a bit telling, as it looks like he’s been eating a bit of cake lately.
I haven’t seen it, but I was just reading this article about how it’s getting bad reviews from the bulk of the nerd community.
I saw it last night and as a member of the nerd community I thought it was lame.
Seinfeld? They think Seinfeld is cool? They might as well have had Bill hanging out with Sinbad.
The cake is … ah, screw it.
It did make me want to buy stock in General Dynamics, for some reason. I can’t figure out why.
Sinbad has more pride than that. He was over at Tone-Loc’s house watching football and both of them were laughing with relief that the had turned down the role.
After seeing most of the stuff Sinbad turns up in, I’d be surprised to find out he turns down anything.
Maybe my response should go in the pit, I hate these commercials so much. The ones where Jer & Bill are staying with “ordinary” folks to “connect” with them. Maybe I’m missing the funny, but I’m just seeing the condescension (so digusted I can’t spell straight). Anyway, I still respect Gates for his philanthropy, but not for his taste in commercials or monopolies.
No cite, but word has it that Bill’s philanthropy isn’t “all that.” Supposedly, the money’s going to big megacorps, rather than to things which would actually help the people in developing countries.
I just caught a few seconds of it when I was working around the house and thought it was a shoe commercial for a second and so ended up thinking “wow, the US economy must really be going down the tubes if the worlds richest man has to take up a second job hawking shoes to raise some extra cash”.
What? There’s no one who thinks these ads are funny? They crack me up!
Tuckerfan we’re here to fight ignorance. Why start a [great] debate or a pit-worthy conversation upon which you don’t have any basis for?
A.) This is neither GD or The Pit.
B.) The information’s out there, for someone to find if they’re willing to Google and then vet the sources for accuracy.
C.) I don’t really give a frak about Gates and his money (and he’s certainly not getting much of mine these days), but since someone tossed out a comment about his philanthropy, I thought I’d toss that out as well (I could also have tossed out that Gates’ has slipped to the “Number 2 wealthiest man” spot, with Warren Buffett back in first place, but I didn’t).
D.) If I were to start a GD or Pit thread about it, would it change anything? Its not like most people would be willing divest themselves of MS products if they suddenly found Gates to be unsavory. Too many people need to use MS products (because there’s either no alternative, or the alternatives are incompatible with MS’s products). So why should I waste my (and everyone else’s) time on the matter?
I heard the money’s going to drug lords and gun runners in Afghanistan. Word on the street is that it’s really Cheney’s fortune, and Gates is just a puppet of the neoconservatives. I’ll leave it to the reader to find a cite.
So, my post is my cite? Where have I heard that before…
Yeah, I thought there were very funny, especially the second one. Had virtually nothing to do with MS or Windows, but still funny.
Some of the bits were a little forced, but I’d imagine if you didn’t like the second ad you probably didn’t like Seinfeld.
