Seinfeld question

In the Soup Nazi episode, Elaine buys an armoire from a guy on the street. When he brings it over, the apartment manager tells her he can’t let her take it in because there’s no moving on Sundays. Is this no Sunday moving some kind of a typical apartment rule? It doesn’t make sense, who cares if you move on a Sunday or a Wednesday?

I went ahead and googled, not expecting to find anything, as I have rented for twenty years but apparently it’s a thing:

Other posters will no doubt have personal experiences.

Here in my building in Panama there is a rule against moving on the weekend. During the week most people are out at work during the day and the elevators are available to the movers. During the weekend most people are at home and using the elevators during the day. Having one of the elevators being monopolized by movers for much of the day is an inconvenience.

I work in an office block that gets plenty of traffic and only has 3 elevators. People are noticeably irritated when one is being used during office fit outs. I would imagine people would be even more annoyed waiting around and not being paid to do so.

My building and my parents’ building both have rules against moving on Sundays (not sure about Saturdays) and holidays. It’s a noise factor thing–disturbing the neighbors. Same with having work done. Makes sense, since you’re in sort of tight quarters.

In our condo building here in Bangkok, there is not a no-moving-on-Sundays rule. However, there is a rule that says no workmen can come in and do work on weekends. Weekdays only. Again, it’s a noise issue.

I have friends who live in condos with very strict moving policies. They have to actually apply for a scheduled move date/time.

My friend got a citation for unauthorized moving when he got a new sofa delivered and the deliverymen took away his old sofa.
