Seinfeld reunion on Curb Your Enthusiasm

Only Larry David could pull this off, especially with the animosity from the cast over royalties on the DVDs. But he’s bringing much of the cast back (including all four principals) for his season opener, including script writers and other support personnel, and supporting actors like Newman. Also the original set pieces. I haven’t watched Curb for several seasons, since it seemed like he was jumping the shark, but I’ll have to tune in for this one.

Starts this Sunday, by the way.

Just out of curiosity, earlier today I caught a few minutes of CYE and though I hadn’t seen the show for a few years, within two minutes I saw the bit where Larry encounters someone who promotes a purely arbitrary rule or policy and gets all upset about it, which as far as I could tell is a required element of every CYE episode, so I gave up on it again.

What’s the deal about the DVD royalties?

Actually, the new season started last Sunday, and there weren’t any Seinfeld folks in it. But the pseudo-reunion is the theme of this season, so you’re correct there.

Too bad. You’re missing out on a great show.

Actually it started last Sunday, so you missed the first one; and the Seinfeld stars don’t appear until episode 3 (which is next week).

Does anyone think they’ll address ‘The Michael Richards Incident’? I’ve only seen the show though the first season, but it seemed pretty ‘ballsy’, yet I noticed there was very little of Richards in the promo HBO did for the theme. I know the last time Richard’s was asked to acknowledge what he did, it didn’t work out very well.

Ah, alles klar. Not watching for several seasons and being on the road the past four months has pretty well disconnected me from TV schedules. We have cable in this RV park, so I saw part of a special wherein the “reunion” was being promoted.

I agree about the same tired theme running through every episode since the beginning. The whole Katrina-family-moving-in put me off the series, but I have to give props for the improv nature of the show.

As I recall (and my memory gets fuzzier as time goes on), cast members felt they got a poor deal on the DVD royalties and were less than eager to participate in the special features portions of the releases.
