seizures in cats

A friend of mine has a 6 year old female cat who is rarely outside. Suddenly, the cat had a seizure. She ran her to the vet, and they kept her overnight, but no more seizures. A spinal tap (the test they suggested) is prohibitively expensive for her, but after 3 more seizures over two more days, the seizures seem to have stopped–well, she hasn’t had one for 2 weeks or so, at least.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what this might be? Can cats suddenly develop epilepsy at age 6? The vet doesn’t think it was something that she picked up outside and ate, but I wonder.

Feline seizures.
