"Selective Startup" on my computer. WTF??

Today I start the computer and this dialog box appears that looks like this:[ul][li]In the blue bar across the top it says “System Configuration Utility”[]Within the box itself, it says “You are using the Selective Startup for troubleshooting your system”[]There is a checkable box for “Don’t show this dialog again”There is an “OK” button.[/ul][/li]
Nobody started up a system configuration utility. I found something in the computer find thingie that describes how to do it, but gives me no idea where to find it, what it’s for, or how to close it down. When I click the “OK” button, nothing happens, except the dialog box closing.

I’ve restarted the computer a couple times and the thing keeps coming up.

Any idea how I can make it stop?

Run “msconfig” without the quotes. This will give you a menu that includes the startup thingies. If you selectively choose what you wish to put in there instead of the whole shebang (which you should, since that uses up too much resource), you will get the selective start-up message on reboot. Check the do not show this message again and it should disappear, eventually, and if you are lucky.
