self-taught meditation

Do you guys have any idea where to find resources on teaching my self how to meditate? or if not, how would you guys go about learning (i.e., with some sort of class)

You can start your search at www.belief.net and check out some of the meditation aids they have.

“Meditation” is a pretty vague term, care to specify what you’re after? There are types of Christian meditation, there is of course yogic exercisea, sufi practices, several varieties of Buddhist techniques, etc.

Are you looking for spiritual enlightenment, or do you just want to relax?

Ridiculous as the title is, I found “Meditation for Dummies” to be an excellent introduction to how to begin meditating, including exercises from a variety of traditions. I enthusiastically recommend it.

A second for Meditation for Dummies

After teaching myself to meditate i went on some meditation retreats. I think there is no equal substitute for a qualified teacher. If you are interested in Buddhist meditations i would highly, highly, HIGHLY recommend “change your mind” by Paramananda. you can find it on amazon for a fairly cheap price.

I would do a search on ‘thervada’ (sp?)

Many of the Dalai Lama’s books discuss meditation and how to meditate from the view of a “simple monk.”
