Selling a house, looking for a job/moving

YIKES…I’m excited and scared all rolled into one emotion.
I am currently living in Central PA and looking for a job in Athens GA. I have a house I need to sell and a daughter with acute lymphoblastic leukemia that needs a fresh start away from this area.

I don’t really have a point, i’m just venting basically (plus I’m new to all this posting stuff).

I guess what I need to ask is, how do I do all of this and still come across as a non-freaking out woman??

Ah crap this is about at mundane and pointless as you can get, I just really needed to get this all out before I cry, scream or go more insane!

>Pats** Mis Understood** on shoulder<

It’s gonna be ok. I moved last summer, and had to sell a house as part of my father-in-law’s estate. At the yard sale I had to thin out our possessions, we put up a cardboard sign: *House for Sale As Is. We sold the house (the buyer wrote us a $500 check to hold the house right there) and we got the same net we would have realized if we had done the improvements we’d planned - without doing all the work.

Make lists - sometimes writing things down and checking them off can be motivating.

Vent when you need to - that’s what friends are for! And good luck.

We used to live in State College, PA! We moved from there w/no jobs & only about $8k in cash to our names. But it has turned out great for us!

Why Athens, GA?

Moving away & getting a fresh start is a wonderful plan!

As a general solution to most problems, I find faith most useful. Faith that whatever happens, you’ll find a way to deal with it.

Good for you!

I moved from Chicago to New York to Berlin to California to Las Vegas…granted, over decades and decades. However, each move was an exciting adventure and I don’t regret any of them.

You sound like you have a semi-solid plan, and some finances to hold you over.

In the meantime, exhale. It will all turn out for the better, and it sounds like you and your daughter both need a fresh start and some breathing room. A lot of people threaten to do it. Glad to see you are making it happen.

Congratulations! Looking forward to hearing more once you get there and get settled.

Athens is a pretty awesome place. I spent a week there last summer.

My business partner is from there and I took a vacation to go to his wedding.

It seemed alot like Chapel Hill, NC to me - which means it was a very hip, northern-y town in the middle of the south.

So don’t freak out about moving. It’s a good place to be!

I was made in Barcelona (Spain).

Born in Pamplona (still Spain), 400km east of Barcelona (and with the roads of the time, 24 hours by car).

Moved 100km south (still in Spain) when I was 4.

Went to college in Barcelona (now only 5 hours away by train).

Went to Miami for graduate school. Lived in 4 different houses in 4 years.

Came back to 100-km-S-of-Pamplona.

Got a job; was denied an internal promotion; was offered another job that implied traveling over half the world; took it.

Moved to Philly.

Came back to Spain, to a town on the coast 400km south of Barcelona. Job ended.

Moved back to Mom’s, putting stuff in storage while I search for the next job all over the country and Selected Parts Abroad.

Still alive.

You’ll be fine, Mis. Promise

I’d love to do that. Especially to move to Georgia! I love it there. Yes, definitely make lists and stay organized. Keep the stress to a minimum. Enjoy your adventure!

Well I confirmed my pay off for my house with the mortgage company today and they appraised my house waaaay higher than I imagined it would go for (you figure, a 3 bedroom ranch, full basement on an acre lot BUT it’s 15 years old). I think my next course of action is to clean out the unwanted crap (why yes I am a PACKRAT!), scrub everything down and call a realtor.

I’m actually so excited right now I could run around the house a dozen times just to calm down (not that I’m gonna DO that but it sounds good ;)).

My daughter had her monthly spinal tap today and ended her day with a positive note as well so things are looking up on that front too. Thankfully!!

I do appreciate having this place to come to for support and laughs.

Again, thanks to everyone that has replied!
