Do the lyrics to this song have any real meaning?
I always thought it was about child abuse when the song by Live came out. But I misheard the lyrics “I’ve been here before” to be “I’ve been a little boy.”
Anyone know?

Shit, sorry OpalCat.
I use both Macs and PCs and sometimes I forget about spyware etc.
Here are the relevant lyrics, one verse and one chorus:
and to love: a god
and to fear: a flame
and to burn a crowd that has a name
and to right or wrong
and to meek or strong
it is known, just scream it from the wall
i’ve willed, i’ve walked, i’ve read
i’ve talked, i know, i know,
i’ve been here before
hey, now we won’t be raped
hey, now we won’t be scarred like that
Whenever confused about lyrics, my first instinct is to go to SongMeanings.net, which I found through this board. This song, being pretty popular, has a fair bit of discussion going already- http://www.songmeanings.net/artist.php?aid=317.
The interpretation I like best- it’s an attempt to reconcile faith with how miserable & petty his church has been in the past.
Granted, there’re no convincing points made on that page, and I couldn’t get much on my own, so I can’t say much. But it’s a pretty song, anyway, that I’d forgotten about up until I read this.
