Semisonic fans: Are the boys played on your radio stations?

We’ve all heard “Closing Time.” Maybe too much.

We’ve heard “F.N.T.” in those liquor ads.

But here in L.A., that’s all we get. In my opinion, “Chemistry” and “Singing in My Sleep” are great singles, ready-made for Top-40 radio, but I have never heard them on the radio.

I don’t think any of their songs are on movie soundtracks, either, although I think “Follow” would work well in a romantic comedy.

Is it just L.A.? Do you hear Semisonic in your city? What’s stopping these guys from being HUGE?

Let’s get these guys on the radio. Everything else will follow.

Up here in Northern BC, we generally get “Closing Time”, “Singing in My Sleep”, and “Chemistry” played in that order of popularity fairly frequently, at least when those songs were new. Now, occasionally I will here one of those songs, but it is rare.

I do agree that they could be bigger, but they do have a decent “following” here. Perhaps following is the wrong word. They are more of a name band, in that everybody knows who they are and what they play, so I would say they are already pretty big.

When Chemistry came out it got a lot of air time on MuchMusic, which is Canada’s answer to MTV (A much better answer IMHO). It was pretty big. I think if they release some new stuff soon, it will be just as big, providing that they don’t make any major stylistic changes.

Round here in Minnesota I haven’t heard any Semi in a while. I’ve heard more Trip Shakespeare (Most of the guys pre-Semi) recently than I’ve heard Semisonic.

As a diehard Trips fan, it’s better anyways. Nyah! :stuck_out_tongue:

I heard that they have a new album soon.

(Goes back to listening to the Jayhawks.)

I wouldn’t call myself a diehard fan, but WRAX in B’ham, AL really wore out “Closing Time”, like they do any summer hit song. “Singing In My Sleep” did fairly well on that station as well. I heard “Chemistry” no more than a few times on that station (although I did see it late at night on VH-1 more often that I ever saw it on MTV or heard it on the radio).

“Closing Time” still gets fairly regular airplay, it seems to be one of their songs to play when they don’t know what else to play, “Shimmer” by Fuel, and “Should I Stay…” by the Clash seem to be the others. It also still gets played on a couple of Top 40 stations closer to where I live in North Alabama.

“Singing In My Sleep” gets played rarely now, mostly on the weekends, when the DJs at the X seem to dig deeper for tunes.
