Here is my clinical evidence.

1980 called, it wants its congressmen back.
Shockingly, another Republican has a non-existant knowledge base about women’s reproductive systems. If only people would learn to stop electing them.
More like 1880. In 1980 people would have considered this guy a moron.
Be interesting to see if Akin will be the Sharron Angle of 2012. On the one hand, McCaskill’s poll numbers have been grim for months. On the other hand, having Akin spend the next few days trying to explain what “legitimate rape” is might be enough to at least upgrade McCaskill from “doomed” to “mostly doomed”.
A stupid myth! Everybody knows a woman can’t get pregnant unless she has an orgasm. That’s why we men scrupulously avoid such an unfortunate, ah, outcome.
Someone should ask him why he considers any rape to be “legitimate”.
Well, you know, the ones that aren’t legitimate (ie: actual) rape are the ones where the woman was asking for it by having her ankle showing. In the ankle showing cases, she clearly wanted it so it isn’t rape.
I suspect Akin will spend the rest of the current news-cycle being legitimately raped.
Pics. Want pics. Don’t want to see them myself, just have somebody depraved but trustworthy to look and say “Yeppers, that’s that Akin guy getting royally rogered!”. That will do nicely.
What the hell does he think a legitimate rape is? One where contracts are signed and notarized?
Since the idiotic comments that came Palin, O’Donnell, Bachmann, Santorum, Gingrich, countless others and this Akin guy, how can they all be this dumb? I think it’s more of a cry for help.
It used to be that when I saw a thread title like this I immediately discarded it as the newest “I don’t like Republicans so I’ll hammer on them whether they deserve it or not” thread. Now I see it and wonder what stupid thing they said this time.
Have I changed, or have they?
He stepped on his dick real good this time. Check out Talking Points Memo, they are keeping an update on the backlash.
Conventional wisdom at last check: he is sooo boned.
Yes.
In his apology from the article from the OP, he said his statement " does not reflect the deep empathy I hold for the thousands of women who are raped." Thousands? All this money and nobody fact checks his apology?
The US in 2010 had 84,767 rapes. That’s just in one country. These are only the rapes that are reported.
The Republicans have been going downhill since about 1978, with a pronounced acceleration when Newt became prominent. Now they are just circling the drain.
Nixon and Ford respected expertise. Once you start embracing crankery -which is what supply side economics was- it becomes increasingly difficult to curb the nut jars.
Nothing much to add except how breath-taking this piece of idiocy is. The anti-intellectual party is reaping what it hath sown…
I really think the current state of the GOP is to blame. If you look back at Republicans like Regan you see a man that not everyone agreed with but who clearly had the best interest of his country in mind, not part of his country, not the rich or the powerful, but the entire country. This was a president who believed in the American dream and that it belonged to all of us. I voted Republican as much as Democrat in those days. I hope to be able to say that again in the future.
OK - sorry - rant over.
Hey, now - 84 thousand is “thousands”. Sure, most people would say “tens of thousands”, but that makes it sound like there is a lot of it going around.
And, much as he is a knuckle-dragger, worrying about only US citizens is probably not a pittable offense.
To be fair, many conservative Republicans have no interest in the female reproductive parts.
