Senate nominee from Missouri Todd Akin is a feeble-minded moron.

Ezra Klein on MSNBC devoted about 11 seconds to covering the event live: “Oh, sorry, Akins is just repeating his tired bullshit, let’s cut back to our discussion…”

WebMD: A miscarriage is the loss of a fetus before the 20th week of pregnancy. The medical term for a miscarriage is spontaneous abortion, but the condition is not an abortion in the common definition of the term.

According to the March of Dimes, as many as 50% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage – most often before a woman misses a menstrual period or even knows she is pregnant. About 15% of recognized pregnancies will end in a miscarriage. Miscarriage Symptoms, Causes, Diagnosis, and Treatment

More details: Miscarriage is the most common type of pregnancy loss, according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). Studies reveal that anywhere from 10-25% of all clinically recognized pregnancies will end in miscarriage. Chemical pregnancies may account for 50-75% of all miscarriages. This occurs when a pregnancy is lost shortly after implantation, resulting in bleeding that occurs around the time of her expected period. The woman may not realize that she conceived when she experiences a chemical pregnancy. http://www.americanpregnancy.org/pregnancycomplications/miscarriage.html

Fuck. Does this ever end?

The GOP. God save the unborn.

I grew up in a church which felt that it was better for the woman to die than to be dishonored by a rape. From the then President Kimball

Go Mormons! Having to keep the baby must be God’s punishment for a lack of “faith.”

Meh. Smith’s comments aren’t quite the same because he was really just walking back an original stupid assertion. I don’t think he would actually have drawn an equivalence if he wasn’t speaking off the cuff.

No? But when you say that you’re against all abortions, no exceptions, then own up to the fact you don’t give a shit about the mental health of the rape victim. Tell the rape victim that yes, it sucked to have someone force themselves on you, and we will fucking make sure that this experience is that much worse by not allowing you to terminate the fetus because our invisible man says that you are going to be screwed again by oppression.

Did you read the fucking interview? This asshole doesn’t care about the emotional health of rape victims. He’s never, ever considered that in his life, or he would have had a more nuanced answer. This is why I linked to what pretty much most patriarchal societies have always said: our women are less important than our honor. Any woman who gets raped is asking for it.

If you believe abortion is murder, than the emotional health of rape victims is a lesser concern. I think it’s not murder, but if I did I’d be an asshole to say rape babies don’t deserve to live.

The mayor of Toronto’s neice who also is the daughter of the mayor’s brother, a Toronto alderman, is all over the Canadian intertubes today after falling on her face for telling women on Twitter to avoid rape by not dressing as whores.

The resulting shitstorm forced her to apologize.

I missed the edit window after realizing the story linked above doesn’t mention the apology. This story includes it.

Even in the apology, she’s still missing the point.

It doesn’t matter what you wear. You could wear a fucking burqa and still get attacked. The offensive part is that the women are being held responsible for what the men are doing. “But maybe if you oppress the women just a little bit more, take away a little more of their freedom, the crimes against them will stop.”

I’m still waiting for some Republican candidate nonce to tell women to stop jogging because their jiggling boobs are causing them to be sexually assaulted.

Now that it’s too late for replace Akin on the ballot, the Republicans are crawling back to him on bended knee:

The GOP – the party of empty threats, meaningless bluster, and craven surrender when its bluff is called. Just the guys we need leading the nation in these times…

You know, you never see Akin and Rush Limbaugh in the same place…

Hmm… Maybe Akin is also part of the act.

Nation Reels as Rush Limbaugh Revealed to Be 30 Year Long Andy Kaufman Prank

Just a brief update - Akin continues to demonstrate his lack of understanding regarding women’s healthcare:

The “investigative article” is from the Chicago Sun Times and here’s a pdf of it.
http://dlib.nyu.edu/undercover/sites/dlib.nyu.edu.undercover/files/documents/uploads/editors/ChiSunTimes_1978Nov12_1.pdf

That article details some genuinely bad choices by some genuinely bad Chicago area abortionists. However, Akins and his team apparently didn’t bother to read the whole article, which includes a statement saying that the series on Chicago abortion doctors would also include reports of clean, healthy local abortion clinics. The statement concludes by suggesting that women looking for reliable abortion information should contact Planned Parenthood, and provides PP’s contact infor, along with that from a second clinic.

So another F for reading comprehension for Team Akin.

The really exciting part though was this admission of fraud by one of his supporters:

In a just world, attorneys in Bryon, Texas would be revving their engines even as you read this …

If you want justice, don’t go to Texas.
