Senate races 2026

Are you saying that Cenk Uygur isn’t an antisemite?

Gah! The election is tomorrow. I hope all those d-leaning polls are accurate. I’ve been invited to a zoom “celebration”. I’m terrified it will be a mourning session, instead. I’ll probably skip it.

I feel the same. I feel cautiously optimistic, but I’ve been burned in the past and 2024 was only 2 years ago. I only feel good about the House, and while I know odds seem very good for the Senate I am prepared for disappointment.

…are you saying that Cenk Uygur is the one asking El Sayed to more forcefully denounce anti-semitism?

Effectively, yes. If he’s required to “forcefully denounce” every ad he doesn’t create, he’s dancing to the tune of trolls.

Except that this is not all about the ad. This is also about El Sayed’s history of troubling comments and insinuations. Which is why what Stevens asked him to do was NOT simply condemn the ad but condemn its message. Which he won’t do.

And let’s not forget that El Sayed invited one of these “antisemtic trolls” (I don’t think that they are trolls at all, any more than Nick Fuentes is; they are authentic representations of their ideological wing) to campaign with him throughout the primary. It would likely be Haley Stevens in the general if not for the aid that El Sayed got from the biggest anti-semitic ‘troll’ of all. A fact that he’s currently bragging about:

If El Sayed didn’t want “antisemitic trolls” to taint his campaign, he shouldn’t have chosen to campaign with them, and he shouldn’t have chosen to brush it off again and again when Jewish groups called him out for it.

His troubling comments and insinuations that what Israel is doing right now is bad?

No, that Israel doesn’t have the right to exist and that it’s Israel’s fault if rabid antisemite terrorists kill American Jews rather than the fault of said rabid anti-semitic terrorist, along with a host of other complaints that DSeid and I have cited in this thread plenty of times.

I wonder what percentage of Michigan voters are terminally online political junkies enough to know who Hasan Abi is or care what El-Sayed thinks of him.

Clearly, a high enough percentage that El Sayed decided it was worth making him a central feature of his campaign.

Hopefully, not a high enough percentage to torpedo his chances of winning.

“Central feature”… Sure. According to Trump, I’m sure.

Were I a Michigander, my decision on who to vote for would be based on the following priorities, in this order;

  1. I want Democrats to control the Senate.

That is all.

What the candidate thinks of some Tiktok guy is not a factor.

I agree with you. I’ve said a number of times that the most important thing is ensuring that the Jan 6 party does not control the Senate. That’s why I’ve also said that I think that Stevens should not have endorsed Rogers.

That doesn’t have anything to do with my criticisms of Abdul El Sayed or my worry about what his election means directionally for the Democratic party.

The great Ta-Nehisi Coates on Stevens’ betrayal and embrace of violent white supremacism:

I do not believe a word that man writes.

I don’t see it. The other prominent dem who refused to endorse her primary opponent is Jasmine Crockett. It’s somewhere on the intersection of an ideological stand and pettiness but it’s got absolutely nothing to do with white supremacy.

When all you have is a hammer, everything is a nail.

That’s definitely the overwhelming factor, but I’d certainly be a lot happier about it if the guy is also as overwhelmingly decent and sensible as El-Sayed has demonstrated himself to be.

I’m laying in a supply of adult beverages in anticipation of either one - it’ll just be a choice of which bottle to pull out.

In what order do we expect to get results?

And about when?
