Senate races 2026

Schumer did some nice recruiting but also chose some pretty bad candidates in places like Maine and Michigan and the democrats won despite him so would give him partial credit.

Also, Schumer failed to put resources into what were in retrospect clearly winnable Senate races in Florida, Tennessee, and Mississippi (though we may pull out that last one). And, in addition to Maine and Michigan, he also heavily backed Alexander Vindman in Florida, who the voters rejected in the primary. So a mixed grade at best.

Still, that’s a great meme!

The only claim I’ve seen is that just based on raw numbers the odds that Jews eho voted Dem except for AES did do primarily because they view him as antisemitic isn’t any better an explanation than because they bought into Islamophobia.

Looks like Arab Americans voted 2% more for AES than Benson, barely any difference.

If you could find your way to that Pit thread about Stevens/El-Sayed, I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts.

It seems evident to me that for some it wasn’t a question of anti-Semitism but just his hard-line critique of Israel. Because I think a lot of liberal Jews support Israel. By “support” I don’t mean they support Netenyahu but just the whole concept of Israel.

I can’t remember another candidate who hit harder against Israel than El-Sayed. Combine this with the legitimate fear for their safety, and I think El-Sayed was just too much, even if you completely set aside claims of anti-Semitism.

Kansas has 105 counties. Just 11 of them had a majority vote for Democrat Adam Hamilton. Those 11 include the large metropolitan areas (Kansas City, Wichita) and several counties that contain state universities.

But there were three counties in southwest Kansas that voted Democratic, something that’s virtually unheard of. Those three counties each contain a large meatpacking plant, which means they also have a large Latino workforce and population.

Perhaps, just perhaps, it wasn’t a good idea to send ICE into those counties last month.

Some Texas numbers for the Governor’s race.

Republicans (Greg Abbott each time)

2018 4.56 million
2022 4.43 million
2026 4.46 million

Democrats

2018 3.55 million (Valdez)
2022 3.55 million (O’Rourke)
2026 5.23 million (Hinojosa)

Maybe Republicans didn’t stay home in droves. Maybe Democrats actually increased midterm voters by 50%. That’s more Dems than voted for Harris.

And, yes, my Prediction for Texas was wrong, but I am happy I was wrong.

“It’s the Economy stupid!”

Well, they can stop the Iran war, under the War Powers Act, or throttle funding. That will help with gas prices. But in general, no politician can lower inflation fast. They can increase Inflation quickly, like trump did, but lowering it takes time.

LOL! :innocent: :weary_cat:

He generally was. He voted that way Dem leadership wanted nearly always.

Schumer has nothing whatsoever to do with that. The DNC (not controlled by Schumer anyway) almost never spends money on the big statewide races, they focus on the down ballot races where their money goes a long way. And this year it worked, look at TX Legislature.

Didn’t I literally just explain this to you yesterday? :expressionless_face:
Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. Disbursed $200 million to Dem Senate campaigns this cycle. However, I was also incorrect in that it is not directly led by Schumer, but by Kristin Gillebrand, whom Schumer appointed to the job.

Looks like they did spend plenty in Florida:
