THANKS OBAMA! f
Hmm. Judd has a master’s degree in public administration from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. That ought be useful in the Senate.
I’m an ® buy if I were a Kentuckian I would vote for her.
A shame, really. Like I said before, she didn’t have a shot, but since nobody else does either at least it would have been fun.
CNN.com’s article on her decision not to run: http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2013/03/27/ashley-judd-wont-run-for-senate/?hpt=hp_c3
Sounds like the right choice. This thread convinced me that a Judd run was a worse idea then it seemed initially. McConnell is probably not going anywhere, but he does have low approval ratings and the Dems do have a decently deep bench in KY, so there is a small, non-trivial chance of beating him. Silly to throw that away, especially given how close a thing control of the Senate is likely to be next Congress.
How Kentucky Democrats Duped the MSM and Helped Elbow Out Ashley Judd. Article by a Judd adviser.
Eh, if she can’t stand up to some rumour mongering before she even enters the race, she wasn’t going to last long in the actual campaign.
The guy ends the article claiming that a Democratic civil war over the nomination was a “false narrative”, yet that’s exactly what he was describing.
I know this is all done now, but Mother Jones obtained a tape of a McConnell strategy session on how to deal with a candidate Judd. Wow, this would have been really nasty. Seriously.
Now the FBI’s involved: http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2013/04/09/breaking-fbi-asked-to-probe-secret-recordings-of-mcconnell-meeting/?hpt=hp_t2
Actually, it would have been comedy gold.
If she is afraid of socks, I suspect she would be highly entertaining in a Senate campaign.
Regards,
Shodan
Wonder who bugged the office. It really could be anyone though Mother Jones getting it suggests a left winger but who knows. Disgruntled staffer maybe?
And Judd would have been a terrible candidate.
Maybe the guy who infiltrated that Romney “47% of Americans are lazyass motherfuckers looking for a handout” campaign fundraiser did it.
The McConnell campaign has no evidence indicating the office was bugged.
The McConnell folks are in “Smoke Screen” mode.
Until evidence is produced that the office was bugged I would think the smart thing to do is assume one of the people in the room recorded the conversation. That isn’t illegal or bugging in any way.
As soon as evidence is found showing there was anything remotely resembling a Nixonian/Watergate style bugging you can count on me denouncing it.
Curiously, the FBI appears to be investigating the source of the recording rather than the content.
Duh, Senator McTurtle knows what the content is so of course it makes sense he will be snapping at the heels of whoever released the recording!
A quick perusal shows that Kentucky is a “one party notification” state- so if the person who recorded the conversation was there in person, no laws were broken. Assuming, of course, that I read that link correctly.
Why would the FBI investigate the content?
Hard to imagine who made the recording. It doesn’t really seem worth the risk for an anti-McConnell group to reveal they have a bug in his office. Everyone could more-or-less assume a conversation like this took place even without the recording, and Judd’s not even running for office in any case. Damage done is minimal, risk of getting caught and arrested is non-trivial, and if your going to go to the trouble of bugging the office, why not wait and see if you can get something more damaging, or at least relevant to the actual Dem candidate.
On the other hand, its hard to believe one of McConnell’s inner circle is slipping Mother Jones slightly embarrassing audio recordings of their boss. Even if they were pissed at McConnell, this seems like a bizarrely passive-aggressive way to go about dealing with it.
