Sensitive ass SUV drivers

It’s like smokers rendering MY air unbreatheable: these SUV dorks have intruded upon MY rights by destroying any reasonable line of sight.

Or my right not to have to hear whiners. Get a life, get a better car, get a better job, or get friends that live closer to you and don’t have to fly in. Since when does my choice of vehicle infringe on your “right to sight”? You can move your car. You can park in short-term and walk in and out. But like most little whiney piss-ants, you feel that if anyone or anything gets in the way of the most convenient, easy, lazy way to do something, then it’s some kind of civil rights violation.

Listen, dumbass. I’m sitting here right now listening to the drum corps at the nearby high school. If I can put up with these little fucks who can’t count to 4 all together without a high-powered rifle, then you can lean over your tiny little steering wheel in your tiny little car to see if the asshole you’re supposed to pick up is standing outside the airport with his/her oversize, taking-up-my-space-in-the-overhead-compartment, combination laptop/garment/sextoy bag.

Dear tradesilicon,
Your plea for “polite treatment of others” is particularly amusing since you were among the first to introduce profanity (i.e. asswipe) into my SUV / BMW thread. Try practicing what you preach and your credibility might rise a little higher than a snake’s belly full of buckshot.

Warmest Personal Regards

Or my right not to have to hear whiners. Get a life, get a better car, get a better job, or get friends that live closer to you and don’t have to fly in.

Is this an Im superior because I make more money/drive a better car argument?

Since when does my choice of vehicle infringe on your “right to sight”?

Since you put your behemoth in the way

You can move your car.

so can you

You can park in short-term and walk in and out. But like most little whiney piss-ants, you feel that if anyone or anything gets in the way of the most convenient, easy, lazy way to do something, then it’s some kind of civil rights violation.

And you could get your ass out of that Macho Mobile and buy a decent sized car. Perhaps a Rolls Royce or Mercedes maybe, I hear Volvos are pretty safe.

Ahhh! stuffinb! Here is an explanation of vB codes. Your posts will be much easier to read quickly if you employ these tools.

I find SUVs amusing in a . I mean, why have an expensive option like 4 X 4 if you don’t have a use it? Expensive to buy, expensive to operate, and if you tear out the front end, DAMNED expensive to repair. Also one more thing to pull maintainence on. Why drag the fucking thing around if you don’t need it? Hell, does status mean that much? If so, what hope is there for American society? And what next?

About 6 months ago, I spun a bearing in my Red-neck-mobile, a 76 Ford F-250, 4X4 pickup. This is it’s third engine and the truck is no longer worth re-building (which is saying a lot), and I miss hell out of it. Ya see, I USED that four-wheel drive. The old crock would get me into the back country on herp and fishing trips and I’ve pulled a lot of folks out of ditchs with it, no charge, including a couple of SUV guys who thought that because they had 4X4, they were invulnerable in the snow. They learned that if you don’t know how to use 4 by, it just might get you into more trouble that it will get you out of. It was great for launching heavy boats on steep ramps as well, and I’ve earn some $$ doing it. I’d imagine an SUV might be ok for that. You need all four to get the necessary traction, especally coming up.

Currently driving an '81 Skylark named ‘The Granny Wagon’. It’s a hell of a good, little car and I’ll keep it going until I can get a new (to me, anyway) Red-neck-mobile.

I don’t believe that the SUVs are all that much more dangerous than any other cage. A shitty driver is a shitty driver, whatever he’s running.

Thanks Tymp, Ive been trying to figure that out

**Again, you assume that because I have a 4X4 that I’m rich. Gee, if I said I liked rap would you assume I’m black? If I liked the Indigo Girls you’d think I was a lesbian? Ah, stereotyping rears its ugly head.

Stofsky

Ever hear of Tragedy of the Commons? Given a shared resource such as, in this case, gasoline or road space, there’s no incentive for an individual to conserve the resource. I think this is an example.

I think that about describes this entire thread.

I was thinking of posting again in here, but the attitudes of the anti-SUV crowd seem a little too violent, and based more on hatred of a stereotype than actual facts. Take it to GD and I’ll join in. Otherwise, I’m stayin’ out.

I don’t know seems to me to be the other way around. But really, if I’m making SUV drivers uncomfortable, well Good! They oughta feel uncomfortable.

Now want to get into a debate about facts? I haven’t seen anyone give counter arguments to the enviornmental concerns, the saftey concerns or any of the others. Most response have been more of the but I can afford it/need it so what if it bothers you variety, or other driver are pricks too.

First if you said you liked rap, I just think you’re crazy, Im black and I can’t stand that shit. No I said that because you said:

Guess the same rules don’t apply to you huh?

Here is the reply I had typed out before the server stopped responding:

Jester, I simply made the comparison because some freak said SUV drivers are driving those SUVs at the expense of others. Well, so are a lot of other activities.

Uke, the fact that you support the idea of taxing everyone for those services, doesn’t take away from the fact that there is still a cost to those who don’t support the idea.
And, ah, I don’t have any power tools (except for the battery powered screw driver for geeks), but if I did, boy you’d have to pry those out of my clenched fists, after I had been cold for a day or two!
oldscratch, the safety concerns you are bringing up are extremely important. I can tell you that my driving is far better than most on the road, but so what? I have no guarantee that some jerk in an escort won’t cut me off, and send me over the side of a cliff. The car he drives is of no importance, it’s his driving ability. What I don’t get is the relation to SUVs and smak? WTF? Also, since we’re not having a GD, I’ll refrain from the 'science part of the argument, but it sounds like mostly junk science to me.

SUVs are more likely to kill you? Only if misused, as is the case with any other car. I’m not out to hurt anyone when I drive, and I don’t think the majority of SUV drivers are. I had a little old Nissan slam into my little old colt, and if it was a few feet over that could have been deadly. I know that the SUV is bigger, but so are campers, vans, big pickups, service trucks, UPS/Fedx, etc. The cities are filled with them, will we ban them too? Have you seen what a city bus does to a geo? Or a pedestrian? When do we get rid of those? What about moving Vans? What about assholes who have a total of five days driving experience, but feel perfectly OK renting a U-haul, and swerving all over the highway? They are fine huh?

It seems like this argument has been all over the map, and you small minded people keep bringing up a new aspect every time, with this “well, I don’t care about that part of it, but what about____” attitude.

Small wonder, with so many small minds…
After reading a few more posts, I’ll add:

Zenster, I really was not putting in any plea for polite treatment at all, after all this is the pit, and any treatment is fair game in here. It was more tongue-in-heek; an observation of the tone of the posts (on both sides). And my comment in your thread was also in tone with the content.

Hastur,

When did I ever say I was conservative or republican? You don’t know me and don’t care to know me. So please keep your 2nd grade observations to yourself, child. And please try to show how I’m being a hypocrite, since you make statements without any rational. I believe I did illustrate my points.

Complete idiocy. I’ve not been able to interpret most of your trash, but I did make out that you thought I had something against the poor. Again, you don’t know me, and don’t care to. Your observations are crap. My family has been penniless before, and scraped together enough to keep going, please don’t preach to me, since you most likely have no idea what poverty really is.
I can’t even begin to address the rest of your remarks, since they are mostly insults with no reasonable logic to follow. But based on your last piece if drivel, I can see that you are so hopelessly lost, that you’d have a hard time finding your way out of a room with one door, with ten signs pointing the way. Nevertheless, I will hope beyond hope that you do find your way out of this place, and find a nice padded room to play in.

I had to get this last gem in here, again fro Hastur:

YOU believe in personla freedom? Oh, that’s a good one, hehe. You tell me what to drive and then say you’re for personal freedom.

I make you feel like carrying a gun? Did I threaten to hurt you? You’re the one who threw insults at me, including blaming me for a venerial disease you contracted, insulting my female relatives, and telling me I have a point on my head? Besides the point on my head, I don’t think you have made a point in ANY of your posts. Sad, really.

Anth, you seem to be suggesting that the pro-SUV people are being entirely rational and playing nice. Please tell me you aren’t that deluded.

Finagle,

Yes, quite familiar with the concept. And we can certainly discuss the limited reasorces, and how this country is dealing with them. But that did not seem to be the point of the discussion here.

Anthracite, absolutely right.

Well, there are a couple things to cover here:

My implication is that since the anti- crowd are the ones that seem to be showing a hatred of a stereotype, that they are the ones that are more deserving of my remarks. There is plenty of insanity to go all around the table though.

To paraphrase what I said earlier - it’s hard to get too worked up over a thread like this, as I see it as being no different from the “I hate (minvans/station wagons/old drivers/young drivers/lesbian drivers/*.drivers)” that are pretty common in the Pit. However, there are some points being made by the anti- group that seem to show a serious hatred of a stereotyped subgroup. I am not seeing the same hatred expressed by the pro- crowd for those who choose not to drive SUV’s. Just a bunch of the usual “Fuck you! No, fuck YOU! No, fuck YOU! ad inifitum…”

And for the second thing, the quote of:

of course is intended to say that I am somewhat deluded on this subject - a polite insult, but an insult nonetheless. Which is interesting, because I don’t think anyone even noticed, let alone responded to, my anecdotal post earlier.

I think from now on everyone who makes a new post should post what car(s) they own, and what their actual MPG are. Come on, it’ll be fun! I’ll even start - my 98 Mustang GT gets 17/26 city/highway. My SO’s SUV gets 25/30 city/highway. So I guess to paraphrase the words of some of the anti- crowd, I would be the selfish cunt in my household who is trying to bring the planet down in flames with my energy wastefulness.

But like I said, I am not interested in staying in a Pit thread about this. Just responding to your post.

I drove from Chicago to Seattle in December. I know, I know. But other than confirming that I’m too stupid to participate in this or any other thread, here’s the relevance:

I drove my little Suzuki Swift. (For those of you unfamiliar, it could fit in the average SUV glove compartment. I think it’s the only car that comes with its own carrying case.)

Brand new tires, but because the car only weighs around fourteen pounds, they might as well have been patent leather: zero traction. Because of this, as it began to snow in the Blue Mountains of Oregon, I began to drive very, very cautiously. Meanwhile, all the fair-weather SUVers seemed to think their vehicles came factory equipped with an Anti-Snow Spell and did not alter their driving methods one bit. I slowly drove past SUV after ditched SUV, snorting in a superior but charitable manner. When I finally got into a situation where I had a big silver Ford SUV spinning around in front of me and a gigantic pirouetting black chevy growing ever larger in my rearview mirror, and my imminent conversion to sandwich meat was suddenly entirely in the hands of these two bigwheeled fucks, I got off the road and hid under a motel bed.

Understand that it wasn’t the snow that made the roads unsafe for me: it was the fucking SUVers. I had to add a day and a motel bill to my trip because they were making the roads lethal to decent drivers.

I didn’t tell you what to drive, I stated why I think SUVs are a bad thing. You chose to take it as a personal assault. I am for personal freedom, which extends to my right to say that I disagree with the existance of SUVs. While I loathe your opinion, you have a right to express it as well.

Perhaps that is because you are hostile and have a closed mind. I said the gun remark because it is people like you who get annoyed at a Geo Metro doing the speed limit when you want to go 5-10 miles faster and whip out a gun when they give you the finger for honking. Grow up and grow an opposable thumb, you neanderthal.

I should probably clarify two things:

  1. The front end of car that rear-ended my wife was totally crumpled, while the damage sustained by our vehicle was minimal: bumper mostly and the fact that the spare is mounted on the back probably saved the car from extensive mangling. The sheer weight of our SUV (yeah, I admit, the thing is a tank) kept it from smashing into the car in front of it. Please remember: the force of the impact did result in the death of a passenger…this was not a little fender bender. Almost three years later, my wife is still feeling the physical affects of the accident.
  2. Our other car (the car I was driving at the time) was a 1983 Subaru Coupe. While this little baby had served me well for seventeen years, it is essentially made of aluminum foil and wire hangers and I am sure that if my wife had been driving this car at the time of the accident instead of the SUV, it would’ve been turned into an accordian.
Okay, so maybe she wouldn’t have died, but I don’t want to think about what might’ve happened if she’d have been in our other car.
    I stand by my statement.

So, you start off with this tripe that is completely ignorant of what you said before.

I can’t even begin to address the rest of your remarks, since they are mostly insults with no reasonable logic to follow. But based on your last piece if drivel, I can see that you are so hopelessly lost, that you’d have a hard time finding your way out of a room with one door, with ten signs pointing the way. Nevertheless, I will hope beyond hope that you do find your way out of this place, and find a nice
padded room to play in.

The point of my remarks was your little list I’ve quoted below, which I also quoted point by point in my reply. You slam those on public assistance, work programs, public school, and free clinics. I was pointing out that the elitist attitudes shown by those and those like you on this board are what keeps people down and makes them feel maligned for being poor. You were once poor? Have a biscuit, because it does not give you carte blanche to be an ass. And it doesn’t mean that because you cannot understand logic or a well put together paragraph that it is crap.

Paraphrasing your own words: Grow up, child.

Just because someone doesn’t agree with you doesn’t make you right or their point invalid. Maybe when you are an adult you will see that.
