As far as I can tell, no one here is advocating the criminalization of SUVs. You’re free to buy one and drive it. But I’m free to presume you’re a mini-dicked moron if you do.
You remarks have a point? No really? What is it? I can only see some insults and random words strung together.
When did I ‘slam those on public assistance’? Please, tell me when I did this. I brought up examples of doing things at someone else’s expence. At no point did I slam anyone for doing it, only for hypocricy in saying ‘SUV bad, other things at someone else’s expence good’ because I know the few posters saying these things are in favor of many other things at someone else’s expence. By the way, the posts you started replying to, dumbo, did not mention you, and I did not even notice you until you started in on my post. Although I’m happy to be put to the test on anything I say, and change my stance, and agree with those who I’ve disagreed with to begin with, you are certainly not someone who presents any reason to do this. Quite honestly, I don’t know why I bother responding.(Charity?)
Re-read my post. Read it again. Then a third time. Then go back and start posting over, perhaps we can have a real discussion. Otherwise, if you’re just looking for a flame war,(and you are within your rights, in the pit and all), there are better posters to have those with. But just in case: carefully remove the entire .003 ounces of brain matter at your disposal (which you will find in between your buttox, and donate to some one who may be able to use properly. Thank You.
Could you change that to most SUV’s? That thing Lexus builds looks like a mini-van, and all of Subaru’s SUV’s look like station wagons. But the last time I checked, a Suburban looks nothing like a ‘swollen Volvo.’ Nor does a Jeep or an Excursion.
As you choose to ignore the words I say, let me point out something concrete for you, illiterate boy… your spelling. Is that concrete enough for you?
Buttocks, expense, and hypocrisy.
You have not been charitable, nor have you substatiated any claims. You have resorted to insults to both me and those who disagree with you and have your head shoved so far up your BUTTOCKS that you cannot see any other point of view. If there has been any charity, it has been from me to you as you don’t seem to tunnelvision past any point other than yours. As I’ve read over your other posts on other boards, I pity your wife and impressed by the sheer willpower she must possess to deal with an inveterate dolt like you.
Hugs, kisses, and appreciation to your beleagured and goddess like wife. :wally
Okay, I really don’t feel like quoting people, since it’s late, so instead, I am going to paraphrase the few major arguments made by the multiple SUV supporters. Please forgive me, perhaps if I get an overbearing demand, tomorrow I’ll give some quotes.
Argument 1: “It isn’t the vehicle that you drive, but the way that you drive it. There are plenty of insane drivers out there who are in cars and are still endangering everybody.”
True, but guess what. THOSE insane drivers are not equipped with vehicles so much bigger than a regular sized car, and are therefore not as much as a risk. Considering that there is a constant amount of asshole drivers out there, then some are bound to get into SUV’s, probably a great number because they’re assholes and only worry about how THEY’LL come out of an accident. Therefore, take the SUV’s out of the picture, you’ve still got assholes, but they’re assholes who aren’t driving a death machine.
Argument 2: “This is exactly like all those other threads in the Pit, that just make fun of a group of people based on a public opinion.”
You’re damn right it is! Does the summary of the Pit not say, “if you’ve gotta flame, do it here”? Well, this is nothing more than flaming. If something pisses one of us off, we post it in the Pit. It’s a form of venting. I think I speak for the vast majority when I say that we don’t want all the SUV drivers out there to die, we’re just pissed off based on personal experiences. That, and it’s fun to flame. Like I said, venting. Put up a post about woosy Metro drivers, chances are good that I’ll probably put in my 2 cents. It’s as simple as that. If you choose to take offense to it, then congrats. You make flaming more fun.
So you feel the need to vent your anger on a group of people because of the negative qualities of a few?
And there are a couple other posts I’d like to reply to, but they’re so far back that there’s no point now (I choose not to reply to wolfman because he’s proven himself devoid of intelligence).
There certainly seems to be a lot of venom expended over over damned little in this thread, including speling critiques (the final refuge of the argument’s loser).
The simple fact is that the percentage of thoughtless, incompetent assholes driving SUVs is little different than the percentage of thoughtless, incompetent assholes driving anything else. As an ex-profesional driver, the only difference I can see is that the thoughtless, incompetant assholes driving SUVs either have a little more money to indulge themselves in vehicles they don’t hardly need and therefore carry useless baggage, or a line of credit that will get them in deep shit one day.
Further, simple fact: On the Interstate, the Law of Evolution is running in top gear and overdrive. Fools die and take others with them. The fittest survive by paying attention ALL the time.
Or by becoming a night owl and only driving at 2:00 AM. I swear… is so much less of a headache driving then…
Anyway, I’d just like to clear up my stance… I drive an Expedition (well, I DID… let me continue). It’s my mom’s car, and I did her driving chores when she was busy with other things (only fair, right?). When I say that our Expedition handles excellently for a car that size, I mean that I’ve driven small sports cars, and larger, less-maneuverable vehicles (an old beaten up van, minivan, etc.). The power steering/brakes/etc. make the thing very easy to drive (again, compared to how you’d THINK it’d handle). Compared to the smaller cars… well, there IS no comparison.
Do I like driving the Expedition? Yes and no. Yes because it’s one of the few cars I’ve come across that I actually fit into… no because I realize that it’s big, it’s bulky, and I probably bug some of the people around me (gasp! He has a shred of empathy!). Which is another reason I prefer driving late at night… less traffic, less people to annoy.
The comfort and space is nice, but I’d gladly give that up for a smaller car. First car was an old (but still excellent-condition) ‘86 Mercedes (it was my grandmothers’ 'til she got a new one). I managed to total that thing in a week… but the fact that it’s built like a fucking tank saved my life (if I was in the much aforementioned Geo Metro, I, quite literaly, would be dead right now). Does this mean I live in fear of getting killed in a car wreck? Well, I did for several months… now I’m just more aware of the possibility. In the Ex, all I worry about is some drunk/hooked on crack big-rig driver who runs a red light in an attempt to catch up on his schedule…
Anyway, the point is, there are pros and cons… an SUV obviously has good qualities, and bad qualities. It annoys other people, it’s a comfort to its owner. It creates pollution, but it manages to lug more stuff around. It can be an eyesore… or it can be an impressive sight to behold (kind of like an aircraft carrier :D).
I’ve had an interesting theory about SUVs… when fuel cells are finally completed (gizmos that would get an Expedition 70 MPG, create 99% less emissions, etc… in theory), the first cars they’d fit in would be the very large ones… i.e. SUVs (currently, the smallest fuel cell is as big as an entire Expedition itself). Would the environmentalists back off then? Maybe… or maybe they’d find some other problems with a machine that they’ve targeted to dislike (I, for one, hardly buy the “we’re running out of oil” argument… we had dinosaurs on Earth for hundreds of millions of years, and we’re going to burn through all their remains in a single century? Please…)
Anyway, I apologize for my first few antagonistic posts.
I’m not saying your a fool thinking that your wife would not have been spared in a smaller vehicle, I’m just trying to inject some facts into this completely illogical, passionate thread.
The fact is that most folks will buy explorers, pathfinders, 4runners, etc, thinking that they are invincible, when the truth is that they can be just as safe, if not safer in an automobile of approximatelly the same volume, by that I mean a wagon or a mid sized sedan.
you are a lucky man.
again to reaffirm my point, be nice, be prudent, be courteous, and the world will be a better place.
Actually, it does. I do have the right to buy as large an SUV as Ford or GM will sell me. That’s the point.
What of it? While ‘tis true that a large SUV will generate more pollution than a new Honda Civic, a ’00 Expedition generates a lot less than a ’80 Toyota Tercel. Should SUV emissions be reduced? Absolutely. What does this have to do with anything?
Listen up you ignorant piece of shit, small cars are more dangerous in and of themselves. Cars have been getting smaller because idiots like you think that small equals good and friendly to the environment. You wanna buy a small car, fine, but accept the fact that in an accident, with any object, be it an SUV, a light pole, a goddamn bicyclist, you will be more likely to be injured than if you were driving a large vehicle. You choose to buy a small car, knowing (or at least, you should have known, but given your demonstrated lack of intelligence, maybe this is a stretch) that it was less safe and now you want to blame SUV buyers because they value their own safety higher than you do yours?
BTW, Limbaugh is an ignorant blowhard, and you only demonstrate, once again, your pitiful lack of mental capacity by assuming that because I like SUVs, I must be conservative.
True enough. I misspoke, you do in fact have the right to bray your ignorant diatribes to any who would listen. Carry on.
Hmm, people like me eh? What am I like? Do you know anything about me? No, you just make assumptions based on the kind of car I drive. You have got to be one of the dumbest, most opinionated, close-minded, knee-jerk, self-important loudmouthed assholes I have had the misfortune to come across in my life. Congratulations, Freak, you’re a socialist.
Just as any pea-brained fuck can buy a Metro. Let’s fight against pea-brained fucks, not cars. Or do you subscribe to the liberal notion that everyone is a pea-brained fuck and it is up to society to protect them from themselves?
Ohh, I know this game, it’s called Spot the Logical Fallacy. Is it a False Analogy? Or perhaps an Undistrbuted Middle. Ah forget it, this statement is just ridiculous.
Thank you for proving my first impression right. You are a fucking moron.

**I didn’t know that was a liberal notion. What is it if you think that everyone is a pea-brained fuck and if they can’t think well enough to survive, then tough shit, as I do?
Hmmm…that leads to an interesting thought. Are those of us who drive SUVs the ones who will survive the Darwinism of the highway? So long, Metro-boy…you’re an endangered species.
Well, this thread is taking a really stupid turn. I would think that the one thing made painfully obvious by this thread is that those who make statements to the effect that people are superior or inferior because of the cars they drive are complete fucking morons. That applies, of course, to those who make such statements on either side of the SUV debate. Why are people still going out of their way to appear mentally impaired?
I am late to this party but I have to say I don’t see why people have targetted the SUV owners as they have.
I personally don’t see the sense of someone buying a big assed monster truck if they don’t have a good reason. Anyone who would pay $45,000 plus for a vehicle has got a screw loose IMHO. They sure are impressive though.
I was pissed off when I saw David Suzuki in the news, he had purchased that new Honda hybrid whatchamacallit and had commented that people who purchased these types of cars should get a break. He commented also that people who drove SUV’s and minivans should pay a penalty. He can kiss my past white ass. (David Suzuki is an environmental activist here in Canada).
I am one of those people who actually needs a vehicle that seats seven. (I drive an Aerostar). My first choice would have been a diesel Suburban preferably with four wheel drive. I live in Canada where the winters are harsh and the roads treacherous. We have a large family and my vehicle does double duty as I use it at work to carry a number of people. Safety is a big issue for me.
I can’t wait until they can apply this hybrid technology to larger vehicles like trucks and vans. These are the vehicles that could use the improvement in fuel economy.
Simply closing the fuel economy loophole for light trucks could, once fully phased in, slash US emissions of global-warming gases by more than 240 million tons annually and lower America’s gasoline bill by $20 to 25 billion each year.
Considering that Americans consume 130 billion dollars worth of gas, that 43% isn’t far off. I couldn’t find an actuall cite for it, but it seems pretty acurate.
Umm, I know this is a mostly-dead thread and all, but I just have to address this:
Of course the Subaru Outback looks like a station wagon. It IS a station wagon. Subaru always made it clear that the “Outback” was simply a Legacy wagon with some different/additional features.
