I went past a construction site for a big apartment building today and by one of the entrances there was a sign that said (in essence) “Employees and vendors of Company X are prohibited from using this entrance. They must use Entrance 2”
Does anyone have an idea why this would be so? Union regulations? Safety rules?
Most likely for Health & Safety reasons, mainly to do with site insurances.
The contractor is responsible (in the UK at least, probably similar in the US) for the insurance of his compound and the associated works during the build. There will be both public and private liability cover in place. This route probably falls under his insurance remit and as such he cannot have members of the public using the route without explicit authorisation. The contractor would end up liable for any accidents occurring in that space up until the time of building handover, when the insurances switch back to the client. Prevention is better than cure.
