This is kind of a pointless thing to say but for some reason I feel like writing it. I turned 20 exactly when that plane hit the pentagon. I used to say nothing ever happened on my birthday. I wish nothing ever did. My birthday will never be the same, but I’m infinatly glad I got to live through it. Anyone else born on this now morbid date?
I used to think my birthday, Dec. 24th, sucked eggs.
I was wrong.
Look at it this way: if everything works out, it won’t be any less tragic…but at least it’ll be remembered as the point at which things began to turn around.
(I know it’s lame. But WTF else could I say?)

Mine too. What a strange thing it is. My friends kept calling and saying, “Hey, I hope you can have a happy birthday in spite of all of this.”
Now, I don’t really get all into my birthday, but these calls were for some reason very hard to deal with. I couldn’t figure out what to say. Well, yeah, there was the death and destruction, but I’m trying to suck it up and have a good birthday anyway? Weird.
The Challenger blew up on my 12th birthday, in front of my whole class, who were eating my mom’s cupcakes at the time.
I know how you feel, kiddo.
As I posted in a thread yesterday, my oldest nephew turned 21 on Tuesday and my birthday is the 12th. I tried to at least appreciate the well wishes on my birthday but all the time I sat there fairly numb from this whole nightmare.
From now on, my family and I will always be reminded of this tragedy for two days in a row.
yo! Tito, Sept. 11th IS STILL your birthday! you are alive that is a good reason to celebrate! i wish you the best, and many more to come!
1991 “La Toya: Growing Up in the Jackson Family” goes on sale (now there is a tragedy!)
How about posponing it - yea I know you can’t just be born on another day but maybe celebrate it a month from now.
So far I know of two babies who were born on Tuesday. I think it’s comforting to know that not everything was tainted by that day-- sweet and innocent events took place, too. Your own birthday is still something to celebrate, no matter how tragic other events of the day are.
I am kind of curious why the terrorists choose that specific day? It could vary well be that it was just a random day, in fact I’m quessing it was. But does anybody know if the day would have any significance to the terrorists either in the Gregorian calendar or the Islamic calander ( I don’t mean to say that they have a 9/11 but on what ever day it fell on according to their lunar calendar.
Tito,
FWIW, may you have many more birthdays. There will come a time when you will have a happy birthday and remember the vicims simultaneously.
magdalene, I turned 22 on January 28, 1986.
Sir Rhosis
Yeah, Tuesday was also my good friend’s birthday. He decided that he’d have to do something glorious and wonderful for all of humankind to redeem his birthday. Any ideas?
My grandmother celebrated her 91st birthday Tuesday. Sort of comforting when I think of her in comparison to everything else that happened that day.
My mom turned 62 on Tuesday. She told us to just skip it please and not ever mention her birthday again.
My birthday was Wednesday the 12th… I haven’t really got anything else to say, except for my response to the OP.
The one year anversary of my sisters death was Tuesday. I really felt weird for feeling sorry for myself at all.

I know exactly how you feel. The space shuttle blew up on my own birthday.
MrsB’s birthday party was ruined four years ago by the death of Diana. She still gets a lot of ‘oh, isn’t it sad about Diana’ if she holds a party after that date-- but nothing if it’s thrown beforehand.
You may want to consider shifting party dates early for the next few years.
I was bummed about my date because nothing had happened on it. Then I found in an old almanac that it had once been a holiday in Tennessee. I was so proud and telling people, but then someone told me it was no longer a holiday because it had honored the founder of the KKK!
