Ok, out of sick curiosity, what do y’all think the best (definite) sequel to a movie will be. Note future tense. Also what do you think the worst one will be. Worst can be possible, not definite.
Well, since Lucas announced he’s directing Episode II himself, I’m not counting on an Empire repeat, where the 2nd installment improves on the first.
I don’t understand the future part of the question. Are you asking which films are likely to be franchises (thus creating sequels)? Who knows (or cares)? Hollywood tends to screw most sequels up; speculating about it just gets depressing. We were relatively free of sequelitis last year, but it seems to be looming its head again. Enough I say! (especially with the $?! TV-to-film adaptations)
I think Matrix II won’t be as great as the first one, though I think it WILL be a good film in its own right.
However, for sequels that will probably be right-out stinkers… didn’t they announce a sequel to Dumb & Dumber?
So, in my my opinion, Lethal Weapon one was good. II was okay, III stunk, and 4 I cannot contemplate watching even if the alternative is death.
Sequels I look forward to:
Matrix, Episode II (Just to see how bad this gets), Star Trek (see if they dump Berman and get a good movie, not a 2 hour TV show), Blade and the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
Sequels I am not thinking about:
Superman (overdone, dudes), Batman (Ditto), anything that would cause Jim Carrey to reprise a role he’s already done (what’s beyond Dumb and Dumber? Dumbest and F*cking Moron?")
Blair Witch Project (I did better with a video camera, guys…)
One more note: Hollywood, quit swiping the Bard and updating him, it’s old.
