After having watched Runaway Jury and then with the ruling today that the jury will not be sequestered for the Peterson trial I got to thinking what other Dopers opinions are whether sequestering is effective in today’s society. I thought that if there ever was a perfect case that warrants sequestering then this trial is it. It is a national trial that will be played out daily. How could a jury not hear references and opinions on the trial? Are they expected not to read the paper or listen to radio or television? Sequestering seems like such a hardship that it would limit the available jury pool. Here is a small article on some of the jurors that were on the Manson and Simpson trials. I think sequestering is not warranted for the trial but should be done for the verdict deliberations.
