That was my first thought as well, but I’m not sure how well recognized it was. It was a pretty short lived cartoon and being that it was, well, above and beyond even the standards of South Park on the offensiveness scale a lot of people didn’t watch it.
Foxxy Love
Another vote for Storm. I had no idea how badass she was as a character until I actually started reading the comics. Since you are unequivocally bad-ass too I think it’s a match made in heaven.
Ha, flattery! I’ll take it. The thing that makes me hesitant to go the Storm route is the white hair requirement.
And I will not do any costume that requires a bare midriff. Only because it’ll be cold, you see, and not because my mid-section is in dire need of repair. Also, the mom from Jump Start might be recognizable, but really, it’ll just look like I’m dressed up as a nurse unless I explain it.
Wigs are purchasable, and many of the variants of her outfit through the years have not exposed her belly.
Actually, if you have the right sort of wardrobe to begin with, a white wig and contact lenses would be your only expenditures. (Contact lenses are for extra geek points - you can either have them in blue, or in solid-white-eye.)
Oh, I’ve purchased Halloween wigs before (this is the holiest day on the MOL calendar), I just think I’d look like an ass with white hair. I dunno, maybe the right one wouldn’t be so bad. And the bare midriff comment referred to the Foxxy Love and Vixen suggestions.
Did I mention there’s a massive Halloween costume shop maybe three blocks from where I live? Oh hell yes. Game on.
Are you opposed to gender-bending? Barrett was a black character from Final Fantasy 7 with a machine gun for an arm. Would be a good costume for a bigger person (not sure of your size IRL), because he was pretty large.
Foxxy Love was the first one that came to mind, but you’ve already said you don’t want to go that route. It’d be a pretty cold outfit for Halloween.
What about Uhura from Star Trek? She isn’t a cartoon character, but that’d be a pretty easy costume. It might kinda fit the theme…

How about Scary Spice? I don’t know if the Spice Girls were ever a cartoon but they might as well be. A Union Jack and a fake British accent… it almost creates itself.

General trick: When someone links to an image and you get that error message, you can almost always just click in the URL bar and hit enter, and the pic will show up. The server is looking at the last page you visited, and seeing if it’s somewhere from their site. The error message is from their site, so it works.
Maybe Cleveland’s wife from the Family Guy? (Or maybe she’s only in the spin-off show. Not sure, I only ever see the show when my husband has it on in the living room.)
Or if you don’t mind gender-bending, a lot of the characters from Fat Albert would be pretty recognizable with the right clothing.

Oh, just thought of a good one. There’s an episode of Daria where the black girl, Jodi, is homecoming queen and her boyfriend is king. They’re the only black kids at Lawndale High, and they get elected homecoming queen/king every year. Relevant picture. Jodi’s regular outfit isn’t really distinctive enough to look like a costume (just a pink shirt and white skirt, maybe carrying a schoolbook). But “homecoming queen Jodi” would definitely stick out. Bring a cynical, condescending attitude with the costume and you’ll be all set.

Okay, people, not that I don’t love you and everything, but “easily recognizable” isn’t “well there was this one character in that one thing I was watching.” Looking for something I can wear to a costume party, that even if someone doesn’t recognize right away, they will right after I say who I am. Also, a lot of the suggestions are of popular characters who, unfortunately, wear very commonplace outfits that wouldn’t look like much. Were I to dress as, say, Cleveland Brown’s wife, I’d wear a white top and blue pants. I do that frequently enough now. “Who are you dress up as, yourself?” A distinctive outfit would be key.
This is absolutely adorable. If I could find a costume like this, I’d wear it, complete with beads in my hair. Too bad I wear black, plastic eyeglasses. With the orange sweater and high socks, I hope if I go with this one, nobody will think I’m dressed as Velma from Scooby Doo.
I’m not sure I can pull this off.
Edit: There will be a Halloween photo thread. I know this because I intend to create it if no one else does. I’ll post pics depending on how kind the camera decides to be to me.
