Serious Insomnia: the MMP

Was he gone?

Poke chops are broilin’. Rice is simmerin’. Beans are done. OYKW is on his way and we’ll have an early dindin then he has to go to a meetin’ this evenin’ poor thing.

That is all.

I met New Guy’s son this weekend. Ten years old and he’s smarter than half the people I work with. Funny as hell, too, and unlike most little boys he doesn’t run around being noisy and stinky and breaking shit. Little miniature adult, that one.

I settled on “Pretzel” as the name for my new snake. Anyone who’s handled ball pythons will understand why – if I move slowly and gently, I can quite literally tie him into a knot without any apparent objection.

You are being lulled into a False Sense of Security.
:dubious:

So now I’ve got the internet back.
I was going to take a bath and my mother informs me that my niece and her four boys are coming over. I didn’t know she meant right now. Doesn’t matter I took my bath anyway. It’s the third boys third birthday.
I caught the tail end of the party but anyway we lost the phone and the internet because 4 boys running around the cramped living room (which still looks like a warehouse) somehow managed to unplug the router and the phone.

So after they left Sah-son came out of hiding and plugged everything back in.

I lost my post from before :frowning:

Bout time you checked in!!! I hope all the changes make you happy. Sometimes you have to reevaluate what you are doing and go with it.

Spidey no congrats yet, just cross everything crossable please
I’m not a baker but I think using the whole egg will change the texture of the cake.

Spaz worms ::shudder::

With about any other kid, I’d be inclined to agree. He did break my heart, though, with this gem:

"You’re really nice. How come you’re with my dad?

Happy Moonday, all! I’m still about, mostly lurking. I just don’t have that much to say and I mostly like to just read. It makes sense to me, but probably not to others, oh well. I think I caught up with the appropriate birthdays on Facebook, but if not, I wish you a happy belated birthday and hope the day was a wonderful one.

Fingers and other appendages are crossed for you, Sari! Congrats to Rockin’. Sticky, how is Bubba doing these days? I hope he’s okay!

We are still getting rain here; in fact, we got so much in July that we moved up two notches in the drought watch (up being a good thing). It has been a good monsoon season, but there have been a lot of flash flood warnings/watches, including one just now for an area north of here. There is, unfortunately, not many places that excess rain can go in New Mexico!!!

Hope everyone has a good day, and if you don’t see me here, catch me on facebook.

Dindin has been ingested. I hate it when OYKW has to eat and run. Makes da bear sad. :frowning: I shall, however, survive.

I’ve always been an insomniac. I can’t sleep well, ever. I tend to catnap through the night, at most.

Good luck with the house stuff, sari.

Good to see you back, **Jim! ** I remember the pics on FB. They were not pretty. I hope the changes you’ve made will make you happy.

We attempted to get some estate matters squared away this morning, but came away feeling like nothing had been accomplished. Le sigh…

I need to get some chores done, but my get and go had got up and gone. In a bit, I’ll mix up some dry rub for some beef ribs. I figure I’ll grill those puppies up and make a pasta salad to go with them. The pasta salad should get us through a couple days too, so that’ll be a bonus in keeping out of the kitchen. It’s uncomfortably warm here and I hate cooking when it’s hot.

Appropriate yays and boos as needed for those I forgot to address. I sort of skimmed, but am not retaining much. Part of that stems from the fact that I know should be doing chores and am feeling guilty for not doing them right now. I’ve got this mental list going in my head and as I’m typing this out, I’m thinking I need to accomplish this and this and this and this and this, etc.

They’re better than:mad: silverfish:mad:. I found three of those little bastards in the Stately Manor today. I shall have to begin nuking from orbit.

My supper was some leftover chicken and some cantaloupe. Dunno what **FCD **is gonna have - he didn’t want me to cook, so he’s on his own.

And then there’s chocolate cake.

Guess it’s time to go to irk and I feel like crap right now.
I’ve actually got chills.

Cool.

Speakin’ of dry rub, I need to make some up soon. The planned Labor Day weekend doin’s involve chikin, ribs and smoked <snerk> butt <snerk> and I don’t think I have enough made up.

In other news I’s tahrd and sleepified but it’s too early to be sleepified.

Time to recline. *** MWAH!***

Sari-yay!!! For the house!!!
Rockin-yay!!! For the job!!!

Happy Moanday y’all!

Back again!

Kittehs as ludicrously cute as expected- also babby meerkats and cousin’s little girl was there, so slightly cuted out. Wound up staying a day more than planned, but I didn’t have any irk to come back for, and I don’t really get to stay up there much.

Allergy testing has not happened; there’s been a mix up with the booking, and I’ll have to phone tomorrow and see what’s going on. They were supposed to call me, and I don’t have the number, so it might take a while to get the right department.

I have a few more job agencies to try, and loads of other stuff to do this week, so it looks like being a busy one. I should probably have an early night. The train was 5 hours and multiple changes, which is surprisingly tiring considering you’re just sitting there most of the time, so I’m sleepy.

Read but brain is not working, so I’ll just leave some miscellaneous yays, boos, hugs and pointy stick wieldin’ spiders here, help yourself as needed.

Sure!

Note to self:
Go online, look up “botulism” on WebMD
IF showing signs & symptoms (which I highly doubt), immediately go order bizarre, perverse, & inappropriate DVDs. I’ll be dead & Flytrap’ll have to deal with internet-tracking/sex crimes PD detectives. Bwaaaahhhhaaahhhhaaahhh. <Where’s the eeevil mad scientist Smiley to insert here?>
Back from din-din out; I’s stuffed. Cake later.

Someone commented on my most recent story objecting to my use of the word “pogrom.” Not because it’s a term associated with Jewish history and I’m using it in a non-Jewish context, but because it’s too modern. I just looked up the entymology. The word is at least 100 years old. Hell, I even looked it up on Wikipedia to make sure I was using it correctly. And I

[quote tag]
(Pogrom - Wikipedia):

In my story universe, there’s a group called the True Church that believes that only the “pure” (i.e. the officials of their organization) should use magic. There are elves in this world that, in the finest tradition of fantasy novel elves, are expert mages and also can’t survive without magic. So the Church is killing off the elves so they won’t have this pesky reminder that everyone could actually use magic even if they’re not a member of the official organization. (I hope this makes sense.)

So in the context of the story as I see it, the word is used correctly. It is the right word to describe the actions occurring. But it’s too modern? That strikes me as an odd criticism. I mean, this is a world where people use scryingbowls and mirrors as a telephone system and I can’t use the word pogrom?

I believe they were described as pogroms in Nicholas and Alexandria.
What were they called in the nineteenth century and before. “Recreational sport”, probably.
