I would also like to direct your attention to a story from our local paper. Three beautiful, bright young women are dead because they rode in a car with a drunk driver. I’m sure you’ve heard it all before, but take a moment to read this article. Our entire community is just heartbroken by this completely avoidable tragedy.
One message written on a memorial wall reads:
“Time will heal my tears. My memories will grow strong. We miss you, your laughter and smiles, always.”
Please, during this holiday season (Thanksgiving AND Christmas), do the right thing. Do not drink and drive, and do not ride with someone who has been drinking. Arrange a ride or have a designated driver. Call a cab or a friend.
Thank you for posting that, Zette. I don’t care how many times it’s said, it still needs to be said again. An incredible amount of pain and loss has been caused by drinking and driving.
and especially, to point out that rarely do you really know your true BAL. I’ve heard way too many times (and here in threads, too, without naming the names) “don’t worry, I wasn’t drunk…”
What? and cut down on my job security?
I would love nothing better than to sleep through a shift w/o getting woken up to take care of someone who’s been drinking, or someone who has been hurt by someone else who has been drinking
Well stated, stay where you are or don’t drive yourself.
I just picked up some wine for our celebration, and thought about this thread. Please read and post a short reply (as I’d like to see it stay current for a few more days)
Too true. In this day and age, everyone knows that drinking and driving is bad and you shouldn’t do it. If I was a law maker, if you got caught DUI, you’d never be allowed to drive again. I’d put you in jail too.
I find if difficult to believe that people still do this.
Our company Xmas party is coming up on Dec. 16. We’ve already lined up our transportation to and from the hotel.
And another thing to bear in mind is, you may be as capable of driving as you think you are…but what if someone hits you? You don’t want your BAC to be called into question, and you want your reaction time to be the best possible.
I am off to Thanksgiving dinner this afternoon. My contribution is the beverages. After polling for preferences among those attending (16 adults of legal age), I am bringing:
1 bottle of chardonnay
1 bottle of merlot
3 two-liter bottles of Coke
4 two-liter bottles of Diet Coke
3 two-liter bottles of Sprite
4 gallons of apple cider (fresh, not hard)
1 quart of peach cider (ditto)
2 gallons of iced tea (sweet, of course)
And of the 4 of us who are imbibing (myself included), 3 of us have designated drivers (the hostess will not need a ride home - it’s at her house). This is the first Thanksgiving dinner I have attended where the nondrinkers outnumber the drinkers.
I’ll be okay; I just hope ‘the other guy on the road’ is smart enough to give up the keys if s/he’s drunk.
Please Please can you all be careful if driving.
Yesterday, one of the best presenters on Irish television, Uaneen Fitzsimons, died in a car chash yesterday. She was a passenger in a car that was smashed in by a truck.
Not only was she great on TV, she had a great Radio programme late night on te weekends.
It is a very sad loss.
Please please be careful. Buckle everyone in the car and drive safe.
Regarding JimmyNipples’ post: I believe (and posting such here is a great way to find out if I’m mistaken) that Norway does revoke driving priveleges permanently for thhe first DWI.
