Teach me to be more careful with my emails next time…
I am currenty in dispute with an association, unregistiered in my country (not US) - for easy reference, let call it A. A couple of people on A’s posting forums have found A’s methods in making people joining the membership devious and unacceptable.
I am among of them so in a private email group we have been talking of doing something about A. Then horror of all horrors and error of all errors - I actually mis-sent an email to someone from A thinking that email belonged to someone else!
The content of the email is simply this -
o I am interested in seeking legal channels to complain about the existence of A.
o I think someone from A’s forum is talking nonsense.
o I mention that I am taking actions against A through legal means.
Am I in big legal trouble myself too (generally speaking, I better find a lawyer quick :smack: ) But please, tell me something so that I could sleep tonight. (The relationship I have with the person I sent to is not important. Revealing my real intentions to corrospondence with that person from A is a sore point. I am more worried about legal implications).
I didn’t say anything inflaming, it’s sent onto that one email, I did not threaten anything - I just said “I am thinking of taking action against A, through proper and legal means”. Am I in trouble??? ARGH~
Well, while it depends on the laws of “somewhere”, and bearing in mind that IANAL, why would you think you were in legal trouble? Think…what have you done wrong? Sure, you may have comprimised your case against them (check with your legal representative) but other than that an accidental email is not illegal in any reasonable country that I know of.
I don’t think telling somebody - ANYbody - that you are considering legal action is going to get you in trouble.
Maybe it’s embarrassing, maybe it tips your hand to them so they are more prepared for whatever action you do eventually take, maybe A will yell at you - but nothing you said sounds like you did anything illegal or legally actionable.
I’m not a lawyer here, let alone in whatever mystery country you are in. But if it’s in Europe, I guess you’re already tossing and turning yournight away…
Nah. Unless you threatened them, plotted to kill them, etc. they can’t do anything at all.
Now, you may lose membership (or whatever) to this association since you might piss them off. It’s hard to say since you don’t say what it is exactly, or what exactly you said. They can’t actually sue you- what would they sue you for?
Of course if you’re in Iraq they’ll probably kidnap you and torture you for a week. Then you’d be in trouble.
I wonder why you’ve chosen not to give more a specific description of the association involved. There’s a terribly wide range of possibilities.
I wonder why you haven’t told the name of your country, since that seems to be of some significance in the matter.
This: *The content of the email is simply this -

…and this: I did not threaten anything.
…seem to be at odds with this: “threaten to see to the end of their organisation.”
In the U.S., I don’t see how anything you have mentioned could even come close to causing legal trouble (unless you mean with respect to your relationship with “A”). Now, if you’re in China or Iraq or a similarly unenlightened locale, Lord only knows what kind of trouble you could be in, for any reason.
Not enough info here for me to even understand why there’s any concern, much less make a reasonable assessment.
Let me guess that the organization in question is Scientology. That might explain the “unregistered in my country” reference.
You really need to give us more information, you are being too vague. Nothing you did could be construed as criminal. What law do you think you’ve broken? What country are you in? Unless you are more forthcoming about your circumstances, no one here can give you an informed assessment.
Anyway, the whole vague scenario you described, coupled with your hysteria makes me wonder if you didn’t just make this up.
It’s not really in a backwater, tryannic regime, so most likely I won’t be drawn and quartered. I asked a couple of friends and they too suggested that I am being a 'fraidy cat, so…
I didn’t say directly “I would see to the end of your esteemed organisation!” more off from my words one can gather that I am at odds and going to do something against A.
