Wow, that quote made it sound even dumber than I originally thought. I think I’d call being *dead *a pretty serious lingering ill effect, personally. Also, this guy seems to think that because he goes to the gym a lot that is somehow protection against deadly diseases.
Holy crap, after getting huge lists of casualties from influenza outbreaks and having it explained clearly how the 1918 pandemic killed quite healthy folks he comes up with this:
Of course, as someone pointed out in the thread these folks were not healthy as they had the flu at the time.*
That and the the U.S. dollar losing nearly all of its value since 1913. These folks are always on about “the Dollar”, as if virtually every other currency hasn’t also been similarly impacted by 20th century inflation. Pick any currency–Deutschmark, peso, franc, or what have you, and in 1913 you could go to any of those respective countries and buy a staggering amount of merchandise for one or two of them. Or get yourself a meal, drink, shave and haircut, and carfare there and back. But by focusing on the dollar they can throw stones at FDR and the other American politicos they despise, and blame the inflation on government spending. In my opinion inflation can be more accurately blamed on the lack of political will to tax fortunes and incomes progressively, so instead the government resorts to selling T-bills, which inflates the money supply and is, in effect, a flat tax across the board.
Yeesh - healthy people certainly can, and do, die of the flu. I’m highly suspicious of his claim that not a single healthy person died of the swine flu too.
But, perhaps more to the point, this guy is totally ignoring the fact that refusing to be vaccinated or have your children vaccinated is putting people who do have lowered immune systems at risk for no good reason. It’s not all about the healthy people. Apparently he’s never heard of herd immunity.
Well, to be fair a lot of people in their early-mid 20s are ‘experts’ in all sorts of things. And as they get older, they get stupider. Strange how that works.
This guy sounds to me like he took Political Science 101 (and maybe Biology 101) and had a few stoned conversations in his dorm room and now fancies himself a well-educated expert. “It’s like…a conspiracy, dude! The big government just doesn’t want us to know the truth! Dude.”
He’ll skip over that post. Claim he’s fairly answered everyone’s questions and pretend he just happened to miss every post that made critical questions.
I said this in the GD thread, but I truly do like jrodefeld.
He has the brain of a reasonably clever high school boy, attached to an ego that bruises more easily than an albino hemophiliac. He wants to believe so desperately that he’s intelligent that he can’t stop shooting off his mouth on every topic under the sun. And so, in the same time that an ordinary idiot is wrong once in a predictable way, our pal jrode can make twenty separate mistakes on as many topics. And they will all be spectacular.
He is a one man compendium of human fallacy. He has turned error into art. I could write a dozen books about the damage of the gold standard, cite mountains of evidence, refute every argument ever offered up for it – and it still wouldn’t bring more disrepute to the topic than jrodefeld does by himself with his own keyboard. And he doesn’t even realize what he’s doing to his own cause. He could not possibly be more oblivious. That’s just… extraordinary. He is extraordinary.
So, what? Another two months, tops, before he’s banned?
