No, “There is something fucking wrong with you” = “There is something fucking wrong with you”.
While I certainly see where that comes from (and how “fucking wrong” even moreso), it just doesn’t reach the status of something I need to get worked up about, especially the question form, since it’s not making any declarative statement whatsoever. If people want to get all foamy because twickster told someone there’s something fucking wrong with them, fine. But getting into a knifefight over something she didn’t say but coulda sorta mighta said? Those people need to go take a nap.
I’m glad you can see where it comes from. Like I said earlier:
The point isn’t, “ooh, twickster hurt my feelings,” the point is that twickster broke a mod rule (again) and apologized for it (again) and maybe it would be nice if she could either start following the rules or stop being a mod.
There is the issue of whether that statement is an insult
There is the issue of to what degree someone on the receiving end should feel slighted
My post was regarding issue #1, not issue #2.
Because you have no idea what my opinion is regarding issue #2, I think your clearly emotional response to my post indicates you have a desire to control other posters opinions to such a degree that you didn’t stop to think about whether I hold that opinion or not. Psycho-anlaysis free of charge
That’s how we’ve been doing it for some time. I actually recruited twickster, and had to ask her more than once. If someone asks for an application we we’ll give it to them, and consider it. But we definitely take into account the possibility that they want it too much, or want it for the wrong reasons.
I’m probably one of the exceptions to the rule, too. I asked for an application, more than once. And I had to talk Ed into letting me in. Given the comments in this thread, I clearly hornswaggled him: I’ve definitely apologized for more mistakes than **twickster **has, and I’ve made many more for which I haven’t apologized. I guess it’s a good thing I’m not a surgeon or a cop or an astronaut or something. :smack:
I think most of the moderators that have come on board since I’ve been doing it were nominated by the previous mods, rather than chosen from existing applicants. (And I only applied after being nominated. If I ever find out who did it…;))
Hey, I’m not *saying *you’re a baby raper! I’m just asking a question.
Like **MsWhatsit **and **RaftPeople **have so eloquently stated, this isn’t about **twickster **hurting someone’s feelings. This is about **twickster **being insulting. All insults are against the rules outside of the pit. Even mild ones. Even stupid ones. *All *of them.
Actually, since I’ve been here, you’ve been the most consistently professional moderator IMO. Any time I’ve seen you make a mistake, you don’t try to wiggle out of it, you don’t make backhanded apologies, and you don’t keep breaking the same rules in the same ways over and over.
I don’t have animosity toward anyone, either, except insofar as their inability to adhere to the rules of their job is making this a worse place to post. When the mods can break the rules repeatedly and consistently with no visible consequences, or even a public acknowledgement from their higher-ups that something was wrong, that makes me not want to come here. And I know a lot of other people feel the same way.
**twickster **strikes me as a smart woman. IIRC she also is (or has been) a creator and editor of crossword puzzles. Both of those things should mean that she should have no trouble remembering, enforcing, and adhering to the rules of this board, since they really are quite simple. That she has a pattern of breaking the rules, getting called on it by normal members, making a backhanded apology, and then doing it all over again, says to me that she is not making an honest effort to live up to the role that she has been given. If she were actually trying, she would have stopped this a long time ago.
When one of us breaks the rules, we get a warning or a note to let us know we’re out of line. When **twickster **breaks the rules, we see… silence. And silence inherently implies that **Ed **et al. condone her activities, that no matter how far over the line she crosses how many times, she will never be removed.
I don’t keep score but off the top of my head I’d say this is wrong. I consider you to be one of the better ‘active’ mods. No way twix is in your league. To be clear, I don’t dislike her at all. But she misuses her power, she is not a good example to the board and is not a good mod.
Bullshit, G. As I have posted before, you are the best mod/admin this board has had during the time I’ve been here. For that matter, you are a better mod here than I was elsewhere. You are unfailingly professional in your moderating, and do not appear to have a temper.
I was just going to post “You fucking liar, G.” but I thought I’d get into trouble for that.** G**. is easily the best mod going, and I say this as someone he has just a ugly run-in with, and about which I thought (and think) he acted like a prime wanker in dealing with me, but overall he knows what he’s doing, and he defends his actions like a reasonable person would almost all the time, which is the comparison people are drawing between his modding and Twickster’s.
I believe correct, mod-acceptable response is, “You’re such an ignorant person, G: what the fuck is wrong with you? I suggest you quit talking out of your ass.”
