Seriously, what's the fucking deal, cherished guests?

Sampiro, well done. Apologies are good even served cold.

CarnalK, thank you for explaining. I guess I only see you in the threads complaining about the mods and I overlook your other contributions. I am also well aware of your homepage. I also realize you do not bother to update it anymore. I will keep an open mind in the future and realize that even I do not read every thread.

Jim

No problems, Sampiro. I appreciate the apology but mostly empathize with how you must have felt at the time.

Well, you may have been a bit overboard.

Hmmm… It should have been valid. Please try one more time with the new address in my profile.

You can find the site pretty easily using google if you use the right terms. I did, anyway.

Well, I don’t know what’s up, Manatee. I got another failure notice. Maybe my cut and paste skills are lacking, lol. If you haven’t managed to Google it or otherwise want me to send you a couple of links, you email me and I’ll reply with what I’ve tried to send. Maybe that’ll shake out the gremlins.

Googled and got (with a side of yikes!, although not quite as disturbing as the woman sperm bit above). But thanks!

This is kind of funny. I found the place finally, and am posting to this thread after following the link to it from the very site We (apparently) Dare Not Mention. I can’t say I’m that impressed, at least after a cursory inspection. Folks make it out to be a lot more noxious than it’s really capable of being, I think.

Hard to tell if folks who frequent it are in any way responsible for the rash of idiot faith-based trolling here, though. Plese don’t mistake this as praise of any kind, but the trolls I cited appear to have less of a command of human thought than the average participants over there.

Oh well. Things are not nearly as interesting as I’d hoped they might be. Shit means shit, as they say.

Yes Loopydude, there is little reason to be impressed but how many deadjournal or livejournals do? A few people here really wound themselves up to the point that they acted like the place was an evil government in waiting (I would cite Liberaltarian but that would be unseemly).

FYI Manatee, if you are poking around at the site you finally Googled: the last link in the link list there is dead, the middle to the previous incarnation and the first to my archival site.

I wasn’t aware of “deadjournal” before this, so I went in with a rather different set of expectations than were warrented, obviously. I’m not a big reader of “journals” of any kind on teh interwebs, I’m afraid.

Well, go to the SDMB LJ. Be prepared to be so un-impressed as to have your socks neatly rolled up. One thread a month, when things heat up.

It’s more entertaining to look through the archives at some more interesting history. It has deteriorated within the last couple of months to the point where it’s pretty pathetic to watch, like a lame animal trying to live up to its former greatness…

“no u!”

I found it several days ago, and I agree it seems to be harmless enough.

Assuming that is “forbidden” to link to the site, where is it specified on this site that it is forbidden? I mean, to specifically forbid it, it would have to be mentioned, correct?

Welcome to the SDMB, scottkris! Your choice here for your second post ever on the SDMB shows that you, like I, really enjoy rules and regulations. So you’ll enjoy acquainting yourself with the many rules about off-site references in the concise stickies compiled at the top of the ATMB forum. What you’re looking for is somewhere in the middle I think.

Well, this really is not my third post here—I was registered about 4 or 5 years ago,but I digress.

I think I know which “rule” you refer to, but the site in question doesn’t really seem to fit, and it certainly is not mentioned by name.

So I guess my question is this:

If someone did not “know” that this site was forbidden, and they posted a link to it, what would happen? I suppose I could ask in that forum, but since the subject already is here, I won’t.

A clearly innocent link to that place would probably draw no more than a mod’s breaking of the link and request that you not repost it, in the spirit of not whomping up interboard conflicts. Same way that “Oh? I didn’t know that!” linking to places like Stormfront would be treated.

A post linking to it with language designed to incite some shit-stirring would likely draw a warning that this is a bad idea and don’t do it again.

At least, that’s my take on how it’s been handled in the past.

DO NOT EVEN ASK THAT QUESTION! It was asked once long long ago and may all the gods protect that from ever happening again… people died, agony was the goal to which people hoped to elevate themselves, one looked not for help to one’s neighbors for one instinctively knew it was not forthcoming, an…

Oh wait, I’m thinking about the time someone linked to the Rosie O’Donnell website. My bad.

Of course I’ll admit I reacted a bit negatively to the people hoping that my then terminally ill mother died in agonizing pain, made sexually explicit comments about the corpse and posted my name and (then) personal contact information and links to her obituary and encitements to disrupt her funeral (though I will say in the mod’s defense she did remove the information when I wrote her- her email comes through a [not very good] anonymous rechanneler incidentally) but there are posts wishing violent death to “fags” and “trannies” and “niggers” that, however jocular they may be intended, somewhere between fall flat and evidence truly disturbed minds. However my main fault with the board (which I haven’t looked at in months and don’t intend to) is that unless it’s changed drastically it has the highest accumulation of truly witless nontellects this side of imdb’s message boards.

I do appreciate the Vonnegut-worthy absurdity of the place, though. This calendar year more than 120 million websites were created in the U.S. alone and there are several times more web pages on the Internet than there are humans on the earth. These people find a site that they supposedly hate, so… rather than choose from the billions of available options for another site to frequent they frequent a site that bashes one they can’t stand. It’s funny in a way, but then so are some of the abuse scenes from Sybil (that “have a nice trip see you next fall!” scene/line from her way over the top demented mom makes me laugh in spite of myself every time). Mostly though it’s just truly pathetic and above all…

YMMV.

No you.

Sampiro: this not a defense of the nether hell in question, but a clarification. While some of the posters are indeed, banned posters from the SDMB and a few that hate the SDMB and find enjoyment in posting about it. Many of the posters are members in good standing here that use the other place to go after members they dislike or hate here. They at least seem to enjoy sharing snark.

You are popular there; Finn, TubaDiva, Q.E.D., Guin & I are other common targets. Many posters that post a lot (too much in my case) become targets of members here that get annoyed.

You have the right attitude, ignore it, Q.E.D. learned this and they generally post about him less. In many cases, they are just hoping for a reaction like the one they got out of you and are more than willing to attack you at a vulnerable time. This is easy when anonymous. I believe, but am uncertain that many of the posters there and their mod at the time, thought they went too far.

Some of our least favorite trolls that like to make socks seem to post there.
