I got a catalog from Deva Lifewear several months ago, and have been meaning to order something form them. A little pricey, but not too far from custom-made (lots of color choices) and it’s all natural fabrics. There’s guy stuff in there too. One caveat: sizes go up to only 3X for most garments, and some smaller. But that’s plenty for me.
Possibly. www.junonia.com although I’m not sure. Don’t remember if I mentioned that one before and I’m too lazy to look.
I have eczema, for one thing, and rayon tends to catch on my skin and irritate it. Also, rayon looks good when it’s new, but the fabric finish wears off after a few wearings. I avoid rayon.
I have a lot of clothes from Lands’ End. I really need skirts and dresses to wear to work. And cotton is my thing. Many of the all-cotton places I look at are the fair-trade places that sell hippie threads for singing “Kumbaya” in. Fair trade is great! But I want clothes that say “Give me a raise.” I’m not plus-sized, but the larger end of regular. I’ll check junonia.
Honestly I don’t work for Zaftique. (I wish I did for the discounts ) But some of the “super duper wow” shirts that I have from there are at least 3 or 4 years old and it seems like almost everytime that I wear one of them, someone compliments me and asks where it’s from and then I have to try to spell Zaftique for them.
my wife is a very experience seamstress, she says that clothing manufacturers do a bad job with the larger sizes; they use old patterns and do not control the dimensions well-they probably figure: “who cares of the sleeves are too wide”!
This would explain a lot-plus-sized women don’t complain enough!
I am a large woman, and I’m comfortable with it. BUT, my lovely fifteen-year old middle daughter (lots of angst right there) is also hippy and busty, lovely curves, and we just spent a whole day yesterday shopping for clothes for a vacation, and she was frustrated and nearly in tears by the end of it. She needed a swimsuit, and there wasn’t a friggin’ suit out there that fit her and fit her modesty needs. Okay, she’s a teen that’s not really comfortable with her body – there’s a lot of them out there!!! We probably could have shopped online if we’d thought ahead, but she is really someone who wants to try stuff on to see if she likes it, and I’m not about to buy, send back, buy again, etc. As a high school teacher, I see a lot of body/eating issues, and I’m happy she’s not a celery stick, but I felt so bad for her, as she struggled to shop with a positive attitude.
I am just tickled pink that Old Navy has plus sizes, but I’m rather annoyed they don’t actually sell them in the stores. What, are we going to clog up the hallways?
But I’m loving that silk sundress they have…
Old Navy used to sell their plus-sized clothes in stores, and only stopped within the past year or so. I’m not sure why they don’t anymore; could be that they sold more online?
Anybody else thing Old Navy’s pants fit weird no matter what size you are?
I must be weird then because they fit me great. At least 90 percent of my dress pants come from Old Navy.
Don’t feel bad, they don’t sell petite sizes in the store either (maybe, like 2 styles of jeans are available in “short”) and neither do other major retailers like J.Crew, Banana Republic, etc.
its not a “anti-fat” thing – it’s an “anti-not-average” thing
This is probably true, and if so it might be that they wised up. I don’t think Gap ever sold anything larger than a 16 in store, and a few years ago when I was wearing a 12, I remember mentioning to the salesgirl that if every time I approach a sale rack, it’s got 57 size 2s and 4s, and 23 size 14s and 16s, and nothing in between, they might want to recognize that most of their clients fall into that 6 - 12 range, and stock accordingly.

I’m posting this in MPSIMS because I know folks will post personal opinion and veer off-topic, something that will get a thread closed in GQ. It’s not political or religious in nature, so thus GD isn’t appropriate. I’m not flaming anything, so the Pit also isn’t a good venue.
In many prolonged threads on the SDMB about weight-related issues, inevitably some Dopers of Size ™ will chime in and say that it’s so difficult to find attractive clothing that fits them. In this thread gone wrong, Neutron Star offers these wise words:
?
Basically, I’m asking if designers can design ugly clothing for overweight women – mu-mus, polyester-heavy fabrics, sacks, obnoxious prints not seen on clothing for those that are weight-appropriate-to-height, and so on – why can’t or won’t they design more attractive clothing? The only reason I can think of is “that’s what the market wants”, but it doesn’t make sense.
I wear a size 6-8 normally and it is A LOT of polyster in small sizes too!
I’m
For you online shoppers, Canada’s Penningtons/MXM/Addition-Elle has opened up an online store with US shipping at 1plus.com. Penningtons is about the equivalent of Lane Bryant, Addition-Elle is a little classier and MXM is the younger line, like Torrid’s non-Edge clothes.
I am not considered plus sized, but I do have broad shoulders and am quite busty. I found a shirt on CasualPlus.com that fits beautifully. I always get compliments on it and it’s extremely flattering. They don’t have a lot of items, but their prices are very reasonable. It might have even been someone in this thread that suggested it when the thread was newer.
