Seriously though, throw the miscreants in their own forum (box) that noone else has to see or visit, unless they want to poke them with a stick. Said miscreants can only post to that forum. Some genius came up the idea, I can’t take credit for it.
Since, due to circumstances entirely within his control, the OP cannot pose questions about any matter concerning his wife he must just wait patiently for someone else to coincidentally want the answer to the exact same question. How likely is it that his question will conveniently pop up?

I have no problem with topic bans in general, but I never particularly liked the one on JohnClay. From my perspective, it looked like a significant part or even majority of the problem came from other Dopers freaking out because he said atypical things. Everyone was yelling at him because they found something he said to be offensive, so he’d come in and defend himself–albeit extremely poorly.
Sure, the topic ban fixed the problem. But it always seemed to me like the punishment was unfairly sat entirely on his shoulders, and not anyone else who was egging him on. I’ve never been quite clear why he was topic banned but people like Chief Pedant never have been (AFAIK).
On the other hand, I fully approve of DrDeth’s topic ban. That was all him. The ban itself is rather narrow, and only came after he kept breaking rules. And I’m pretty sure I’d remember any others that I objected to.
Yeah, I know. The majority of you don’t care what I think. But this was on my mind since I saw the Warning, and this is the only appropriate place to share.
And, yes, I know the mods probably saw more than I did.

Most of the topic bans I’ve seen over the years seem to have worked out pretty well. No need to euthanize the patient when surgery has a good chance of success.
For example, a particular patient has been alive and well and contributing to the board since he had his Verhoeven removed 5 years ago. How would it have been better to ban him outright?

I understand no warning was given as stated above. I actually appreciate the mods action or at least the heads up that this gentlemen does some odd things and might be best left to his toys instead of the SD, being very genuine.

This thread isn’t about you. So this thread isn’t the place.
You were given instructions by a moderator. You failed to follow them. That is why the topic ban was put into place.
You failed just now in this thread to follow moderator instructions. This is exactly the same sort of thing that got you topic banned. Possible punishments for failing to follow a moderator’s instruction range from absolutely nothing to a mod note to a suspension to a complete banning.
We are not required to warn you first.
I am going to be nice and do nothing.

I shouldn’t have to emphasize this, but… when you are given instructions by a moderator, follow them.
